A/N: I was in a mood so the writing style and structure is maybe just a tad different in the next few chapters... Nothing crazy though I swear. On another note, you guys said you liked seeing Shinso's POV so expect to see a little more of his thoughts as the chapters progress.
Have fun reading!
Midoriya's POV
Ms. Kayama is once again lounging on our couch this morning, though luckily I manage to make myself somewhat presentable prior to her showing up this time. Unfortunately, that's only because I had trouble sleeping again and was up getting ready a while ago.
Today she wears a silky looking, puff-sleeved blouse in a deep red color tucked into a long pencil skirt, some expensive and painful looking high heels sitting by the door. Her hair is pulled up into a sort of large, spiky bun that somehow looks intentional and messy all at once, and for once she has no glasses on her face, not even sunglasses.
I'm struck again by how different these heroes look as soon as they're in civilian clothes. Maybe it's because it gets ingrained in us that they wear a very specific outfit with very specific accessories and have very specific hairstyles since that's the only time we see them, so when they wear anything else they don't look like the same person in our brains. Maybe that's why there are so few off-duty hero 'spottings' on a regular basis.
Oh, but mutant-type heroes! There aren't many who get extremely popular, but the ones that do tend to get noticed more since they stand out visually, so they spend more time in the media. Like Miruko. I'm pretty sure paparazzi catches her at least once a month so the papers can post another 'scandalous' picture of her going out for groceries or having brunch with a friend. Still, they don't bash her as hard as other mutant-type heroes, probably because they think she's still pretty.
Okay, that's enough. Why am I always pondering the inequality of the hero profession in this country when Midnight is in the living room?
Said hero is busy giving Nyoko attention, who just emerged after eating her breakfast. "Did you miss me?" She coos, "did you miss mama? They don't give you the love I do here, do they?" The cat meows in response, as if she's actually agreeing to her words.
"Hey, don't act like we don't take care of her. She gets all the love and attention she wants. You know she throws a fit at least once a week if we don't let her sleep sandwiched between us? Some nights she just randomly decides 'no, you don't get to cuddle with your husband tonight even though you only get a few hours before you have to get up' and I just have to let her. She runs this house." Hizashi says the words by the front door, where he's getting ready to leave, stumbling as he slips one shoe on. It's started to become a familiar sight.
"As she should. Isn't that right, little Nyoko?"
Hizashi ignores her.
"You're leaving in about half an hour, right?" He asks instead, and she agrees. "Great, then just remember to- oh my goodness, how could I forget?"
He suddenly turns to me, panicked. "We never gave you your set of keys!"
"Oh." I blink in surprise. I suppose I wasn't really expecting I'd get my own keys.
"The spare set is here," he points to the ones hung up on a small hook next to the door, just above the light switch. "They'll be yours for the time being, alright? Just until this weekend when I can go and get another copy made for you. Sorry about that."
"No no, it's fine. Thank you," I reassure.
"Great. Well, I've gotta head out. Make sure you lock the door behind you when you leave. Shota said he'll pick you up from your classmate's home an hour before your training with him. Text me when you make it over there?"
