349. Back To Strangers

"Well good morning to you, Fabian." Dr Bosch greets as Kaia and Mapi enter her surgery with Fabian leading the way curiously.

"Hi." Fabian greets the woman he can't remember, turning and holding his arms up to Mapi who was closest to him.

Mapi lifts Fabian up off the floor and settles him on her hip, letting him rotate in her arms to look around at the x-ray arm, the check up tray already laid out and the gloves the dental nurse had at her side.

"Kaia, do you want to go first?" Dr Bosch suggests, tapping the back of the padded chair encouragingly.

"Watch mami." Mapi urges Fabian, pointing to where Kaia was taking a seat on the dental chair.

"I'll just go through your details quickly." Dr Bosch says to Kaia in a much more professional way, her enthusiasm purely for Fabian's comfort. "Any change to your address or medical history?"

"No, everything is just the same." Kaia replies, watching the dentist scroll through her recently updated records.

"Brushing twice a day, flossing before bed..." Dr Bosch reads positively. "Ok, let's put you back on the chair."

The chair Kaia was sat on slowly begins to recline, making Fabian flail his body in shock. "Oh no, mami!"

"Mami is still here, she's safe." Dr Bosch assures, placing her loupes over her eyes as she waits for the chair to be in place. "How is that wisdom tooth of yours?" She asks the patient in the chair.

"Still there, not causing me too much trouble at the minute." Kaia chuckles, reaching to touch the right side of her jaw.

"She has trouble with the flossing in that area." Mapi voices, bouncing Fabian to keep him entertained.

"Any bleeding?" Dr Bosch wonders.

"No." Kaia answers. "I think it's just because it's not fully erupted and kind of coming through on its side, so it's hard to get between the one in front."

"Hm, well we might see what it looks like on an x-ray." Dr Bosch suggests, glancing to her nurse who was already getting out a clean holder. "If you're getting trouble with it, we might think about taking it out."

"Great." Kaia sighs softly, really hoping that wasn't the case.

The rest of Kaia's check up goes well and smooth, a quick check over of her teeth and gums, an amusing conversation about her new lip tattoo that caught Dr Bosch by surprise and by the end of it Fabian was very keen to be the next one on the chair.

"Me! Me!" Fabian decides, sliding down Mapi's leg onto the floor with Eduardo clutched in his hands for support. 

"Do you want to sit him on your knee?" Dr Bosch suggests to Kaia who was still seated.

"No, me!" Fabian repeats excitedly.

Mapi chuckles, glad to see him so relaxed in this setting. "He's very independent." She explains as Fabian tries to lift himself up onto the chair from the other side Kaia was getting off.

Fabian shuffles around until he's on his bum, the curve of the chair making his feet stick up in the air as he opens his mouth wide.

"Wow, ok." Dr Bosch encourages, quickly putting a fresh pair of gloves on while he was so willing. "Can I count your teeth?" She asks.

Fabian nods with his mouth still open, hands flat on the chair either side of him like he was bracing himself.

Eduardo sat freely on his lap.
