"Don't do this, Y/n." You say to yourself.

Walking up and down, and around your couch. The sparkly city lights twinkle through your large apartment windows.

Valentine's Day. Oh, Valentine's Day.

Your first one alone, since your last relationship. And yes, Christmas without him was hard. Thanksgiving without him and his perfect family was hard.

But you had to make that decision, for your own good. As perfect as Steve Rogers was—is—and as good as he is in bed—he was just too controlling over you.

Who you were texting.

Where you were going.

With who you were going.

The time you left for work and got home.

He calculated to the point of how long you'd take at the red lights traveling back home. And when he saw you made a pit stop to pick up dinner, or meet up with a friend—all hell broke loose.

Your mom and your friends immediately told you to drop him. That it wasn't worth his looks, or his love. He was getting too obsessed with you.

Not to say you don't like your man to be obsessed with you, but Steve took it to a whole 'nother level.

You made it this long without him after you broke things off at the end of last summer. Placing your forehead in your hand you shake your head.

Trying to fight this overwhelming pressure to call him.

What's the worst that could happen? Last you heard from your nail girl he was single, a few flings here and there but most likely single.

Sighing as you plop onto your couch, you stare at his contact name. One that used to be decorated with emojis and a photo of him holding his puppy, America.

Steve's an all star patriot so, he might as well be Captain America—which is his favorite comic.

Deciding to just call and see if he even answers, you go for it. You also heard that he was a mess after you broke up with him.

So maybe he won't even answer, and it'll be your sign to stop this stupid thing you did on Valentine's Day.

The line trills about five times before you make the decision to hang up—Steve picks up on the 5th trill.

"Hello?"

"Hi," you say quietly. Smiling at his husky voice.

Wherever he is it's super quiet too.

"Hi." He echoes. "You're not calling from a police station are you?"

"No," you laugh, letting silence fill the air, "why'd you think that?"

Hearing his voice again is so refreshing.

"Cause, I would've figured Yani would've got you into some trouble by now."

Yani is your best friend, who may be a bit crazy and a party hard kind of girl but you love her regardless. Steve was kind of approving of her.

Laughing like old times, Steve smiles on the other line. He could always brighten up serious situations.
