councilwoman! Reader x hubby! ChrisLooking at the city view from the windows in your town hall office, you roam around listening to the trill of the open line as your secretary just connected you to a call.
"Hello?"
Straightening your back, you clear your throat, "Mr.Donald Ruiz?"
"Yes."
"Hi, this is Y/n Evans, calling from the town hall. How are you doing?"
"Oh hello, I'm fine. How are you?"
"Honestly Donald, I could be better." Looping your hand against your folded arm as you held your phone to your ear you continue to stroll around.
"I thought we had a deal." Your chirpy tone cuts immediately, and you show that you're pissed, "we would boost your income by the stipend and you would fix the lights in the playground by the school."
"Well, Miss Evans..."
"It's Mrs," you pop your hip out even though he can't see you, "I demand the lights be fixed immediately. Mayor Mackie and I will be giving you until the end of the week. If you can't do a simple job we will be forced to find another town electrician."
Your ward of this town that you loved so much, had a playground and an elementary school which you held as a high priority in your long lists of things to do.
Also in your ward was a big lighting issue, especially in the school at night.
Because it's so dim, young hooligans would go there and smoke and leave all kinds of wrappers on the ground.
For the kids to pick up the next day, it's not fair. They should have a nice clean playground. Free of drugs.
"Will do, Mrs.Evans. I'll get right on that."
"Good," your tone snippy and determined, "because I checked your job list, you guys have been slacking and picking up small tasks here and there. Which leaves plenty of time to do the park and the school, because what else is your salary for Donald?"
"I'm deeply sorry, the lights will be fixed by the end of the week."
"They better be," you don't let him push, or let his fake apology get to you. Those guys love to pick up small tasks and then go to the bar to watch the latest game.
"And this is not a warning, Mr.Ruiz, if the lights are not fixed you will be out of a job at the end of the week because certainly the Mayor and I have plenty of candidates who are willing to do the job. Have a great night."
Hanging up on him, you slide your phone into the small pocket of your skirt. Decompressing and taking a deep breath, working as a councilwoman isn't the easiest job.
But you love helping the residents in the town you grew up in, and advocating for them in any way they need.
You remember as a kid, the stop sign on your street was damaged after a car crashed into it. Because there was no stop sign on your street, cars would zoom by and cause numerous accidents on the ongoing road intersecting with yours.
In the summer you and your friends weren't able to play outside anymore because your parents were all scared you guys would get run over by an incoming car.
It took the councilman, in that time, almost three years to get a new stop sign put in. After numerous car accidents and boring summers.
So you ask yourself today, why was it so hard to get a damn stop sign? Last week you had one placed in your ward because some kids decided to spray paint it.
