"They thought he was temporary. He became their everything."
The sound of thunder cracked across the sky just as Chan pulled open the dorm door, hoodie halfway up over his head. Rain pelted down, soaking the welcome mat. He paused.
"What the hell?" he muttered, squinting into the dark. "Hyung, you coming?" Jeongin called from the hallway, towel over his shoulder. "I thought you were getting the delivery—"
"There's a basket," Chan said slowly, his voice tight.
"A what?" Jeongin stepped closer. The others began drifting toward the door too, curiosity piqued.
Chan crouched down, heart pounding as he reached toward the little wicker basket nestled under the overhang. It was lined with a baby blanket—light blue with white clouds. Something inside moved.
"Is that... a cat?" Seungmin asked flatly, appearing behind Jeongin with his phone flashlight turned on.
"No," Chan whispered. He pulled the blanket back.
Big brown eyes blinked up at him. A tiny hand reached toward his hoodie string.
"Oh my God," Hyunjin breathed.
"A baby?" Jisung's voice cracked.
"Not a baby," Changbin murmured, kneeling beside Chan. "A toddler."
The little boy blinked again, then hiccuped, his bottom lip trembling. Chan spotted a folded piece of paper tucked into the blanket and opened it with shaking fingers.
"His name is Felix," he read aloud. "Please take care of him."
"Is this a prank?" Minho asked, kneeling beside him now too, voice hushed.
"No one would leave a real kid out in the rain as a joke," Seungmin said, already pulling off his hoodie. "He's freezing."
Felix let out a tiny, confused whimper. "Wain loud," he mumbled.
"Oh," Chan whispered, heart twisting. "Yeah, buddy. It's loud, huh?"
"Wan' up," Felix sniffled, hands reaching out toward Chan.
"Oh—uh, okay, come here," Chan murmured, scooping him up carefully. The boy immediately curled against his chest, little fingers twisting into Chan's hoodie. "You're okay now. We've got you."
"He's soaked," Minho said. "We need to get him inside, get him dry."
"Come on," Jeongin said, holding the door open as everyone moved back inside, eyes still wide.
"Where do we even put him?" Hyunjin asked, trailing behind them. "We don't have a crib or anything."
"Couch," Changbin said quickly. "Let's just dry him off and keep him warm."
They all moved like a chaotic but careful unit—Minho grabbed towels, Seungmin fetched a blanket from the laundry, and Jeongin stood awkwardly nearby, holding a juice box like it might help.
Felix sat in Chan's lap on the couch now, bundled in a fluffy towel, little feet kicking slightly as Minho gently dried his hair with another.
"How old do you think he is?" Seungmin asked quietly, watching him.
"Two," Minho said after a moment, ruffling Felix's damp curls. "Maybe two and a half."
Felix blinked up at him, then pointed. "Mama."
Minho froze. "What?"
Chan tried not to laugh. "Did he just call you Mama?"
Minho looked stunned. "I think he did."
