"He wasn't born a wolf, but he was born to be theirs."

The wind was cold as it cut through the trees, sharp with the bite of late autumn. Minho's nose twitched as he caught the scent of blood and death just seconds before Chan did.

"You smell that?" Chan murmured, his voice low.

"Yeah." Minho's eyes narrowed. "Someone's dead."

They broke into a run without another word, paws pounding against the frozen ground until they skidded to a halt near the edge of a shallow ravine. There, half-buried under a blanket of pine needles and frost, was a man—already gone cold.

But the moment Chan stepped closer, he heard it. A soft, pitiful whimper.

Minho's ears perked. "Did you hear that?"

Chan shifted back into his human form instantly, his muscles rippling as he stepped around the dead man and gasped. "Oh my god."

Curled up against the man's chest, tiny and trembling, was a toddler.

"He's alive," Chan breathed. "Minho—he's alive."

Minho changed forms too, crouching beside him. "A human?"

Chan nodded, already reaching for the child. "Poor thing's freezing."

The boy was barely conscious, his face red from crying, cheeks blotchy and raw from the cold. His clothes were dirty and torn, his little fingers stiff. Chan gently gathered him into his arms.

"His dad's dead," Minho said softly, hand on the man's neck to check, but it was obvious. "We can't leave him here."

"Wouldn't dream of it," Chan muttered. "You carry him?"

Minho sighed and stood, lifting the dead man with care. "We're bringing a human baby into a den full of wolves."

"And?" Chan shot him a look. "We're not monsters."

Minho gave him a tired smile. "No. We're not."

It was a long walk back. The boy didn't stir until they were just within sight of their den. His eyes fluttered open, glossy and tired, and he blinked up at Chan. Then his gaze moved to Minho—still in wolf form now, carrying the man's body gently.

"Puppy," the toddler whispered.

Chan nearly tripped. "What did you say?"

"Puppy." The boy pointed with a shaking hand. "Him puppy."

Chan chuckled, heart clenching. "Yeah, I guess he is. What's your name, little one?"

"Fewix," the boy mumbled, blinking slowly.

"Felix," Chan repeated, voice soft. "That's a nice name. I'm Chan. That's Minho. But don't worry—we won't hurt you."

Felix stared at him with big, innocent eyes, still dazed but calm. "I know. You puppies."

Chan smiled. "You do, huh?"

Felix giggled, a broken little sound. "Awoooo."

Chan laughed as they reached the mouth of the den, where the scent of pack and home surrounded them. Inside, warmth and light spilled from the wide cave, the sounds of chatter stopping the moment Chan stepped in.

"Chan?" Hyunjin stood first, eyes widening. "What—who's that?"

"Dead man outside," Minho murmured, laying the body gently by the edge of the cave. "This one's his kid."

Everyone stood, shock clear on their faces as they saw the toddler curled against Chan's chest.

"He's human," Seungmin said carefully.
