"When Chan found him, he didn't just find a child—he found their missing piece."
The city was quiet, moonlight casting silver puddles across the pavement. Chan walked with his hands tucked into the pockets of his hoodie, hood pulled up to block out the cool night breeze. He'd been doing this a lot lately—night walks when the silence was loud enough to feel, when the world finally slowed down just enough to think.
But no matter how far he walked, that strange feeling in his chest never faded. That ache. Like something was missing. Like someone was missing.
The same dream had haunted him for weeks now. Always the same—he'd be walking down a quiet street just like this, moon overhead, and then he'd hear it: a soft sound, almost a whimper. He'd follow it to a dark alley and find him. A tiny blonde boy, barely two years old, with tear-streaked cheeks and the brightest eyes he'd ever seen. And he always said the same thing when Chan picked him up.
"Appa."
Chan stopped walking.
He blinked. There it was again. That sound. A hiccup. A sob.
"No way," he whispered to himself.
He turned slowly, staring at the alley that curved behind the dorm building. Exactly like in the dream.
"Hello?" Chan called gently, stepping closer.
Another sniffle. Then a whimper.
Chan's breath caught.
He rounded the corner.
And there he was.
A tiny boy sat huddled beside a pile of cardboard, blonde hair a tangled mess, face blotchy and wet with tears. He looked up at the sound of Chan's footsteps.
"Appa?" the boy said softly.
Chan dropped to his knees without thinking. "Hey, hey, it's okay. Shhh, you're safe now."
"Appa!" the boy wailed and launched himself forward, arms wrapping tight around Chan's neck.
"Oh—oh wow, okay, I got you," Chan murmured, cradling the little body close. "You're real. You're real..."
The toddler buried his face in Chan's hoodie. "Me waited. You come now."
Chan held him tighter. "I came. I'm here now."
He stood, the boy in his arms light as air but heavy with something deeper.
"I don't know what's going on," Chan whispered, "but I'm not leaving you here."
Back at the dorm, the lights were still on.
Jisung opened the door first. "Hyung, where'd you—wait... what the—what is that?"
"He's a toddler," Chan said, stepping inside. "I found him."
Minho poked his head out of the kitchen. "You what?"
Seungmin blinked from the couch. "That's... the dream kid."
Hyunjin walked over slowly, his eyes wide. "Hyung. He looks exactly like the boy you described."
Jeongin rubbed his eyes, staring. "Hyung... why does he look like the toddler in your dream?"
Chan looked down at the child, who clung to him like he was his entire world.
"Maybe," Chan said softly, "this is what the dream's been leading me to."
The boy looked up at him, smile small but glowing. "Me found you. You mine now."
