Platonic Love song

First of all, hiii long time no see. I haven't updated in quite a while. I don't really use wattpad at all anymore. But I saw something today that made me think of something and I didn't know where else to talk about it. So here I am. Talking about it into the void of wattpad that may never see the light of day.

I made at least 2 posts around this song already, but I thought of something new to say. So the song I'm referring to is Space Between from Descendants 2. This song used to be one of my favorite Descendants songs back in my Decendants days for the exact fact it was a love song that wasn't romantic and it was low key kinda sad bc they were talking about growing apart but not away from each other. Anyways, lots of people interpret it as romantic which is fine, but when I first learned this I was very new in my aroace identity and was way more insecure about it and was having trouble accepting it. Part of the reason for that was how little platonic love was recognized in media, especially songs and Disney. Disney is all over "Princess with her Prince"

So basically in my young aroace days it upset me because it was turning something that was special to me (platonic love) into romance (something I was realizing that I was one of the few people ever to not really enjoy while everyone else was obsessed. And that alone made me dislike romance even less) but because it being romantic would then in turn make it sapphic I also felt guilty for disagreeing with that interpretation. Because despite me not liking romance I still want representation for the entire LGBTQIA plus community. So it just made everything worse tbh.

Anyways years later, today, I see a video with the same kinda thought as me about how they disagree with it being romantic and wished platonic love was valued more. And the comments had a very mix amount of reactions, which was predictable.

One thing I realized though was a handful of people were saying "if you just saw the lyrics you'd interpret it as romantic"  (which I mean in a general sense might be true but me personally I'll interpret everything as non romantically as long as I can. Espically if people will turn platonic things into romance, the aroace raging in me will just act like romance is platonic) anyway my point is the lyrics talk about moving on but not loosing each other, going your own way and chasing your own dreams. Which is how people see Platonic love all the time.

I see people use that to MINIMIZE platonic love. "Well romanric love you build a life together and platonic love, you guys go and live your own life,"
Like that's litteraly what's happening in Space Between. Mal is thinking of staying on the isle and Evie wants to stay in Auradon. They're going their own way yet still promising to be there for each other. People all the time act like platonic love is less because "you go your own way and romance is all together" (and platonic love doesn't always mean you don't build a life together btw. But people act like it does)  like

Idk if I'm wording it properly to really stress how I feel.

Like people will say platonic love is less bc you don't build a future together. This song is literally about them building their own futures and now all of the sudden people are like "ahh that's so deep and it's true love. Romantic" like idk

Also i do think space between is a love song and not all love songs are romantic and like if someone thinks of their own romantic partner to this song like that's their own connection to make. I'm talk about how it feels unfair people will kinda act like it is inherently romantic.

Like plssss I wannna talk about this with someone but like who? Bc I know the reality of it. I know ots a non issue and me disagreeing with it being romantic feels like it's homophobic even though I do want more gay rep

Idk. I just.  Idk who to talk to about this. It's a complicated subject for me and it always will be. Like it's moments like these where I can't tell if I love being aroace bc I get to see what others don't see and I get to see platonic love in this special way or if I hate being aroace u don't see it the way everyone else does but that almsot makes me feel worse bc like idk conforming just to conform and "be like everone else" has always made me uncomfortable like why should I follow what other people say just because "everyone's saying it" like "everyone lies this" makes me wanna like it less

Like idk. Sorry for the rant. I hope you all have an amazing day/night!
