"Why was my dad at our apartment? He knew my mom and I were in St. Louis. Did you know he was coming?" Taylor asked, nervously awaiting a response.
"No baby, I had no idea he was coming. He just showed up when I got home from work."
"Kar, why did he come? Is everything ok?"
Karlie had a million and one things racing through her mind right now. She wanted to honor Scott's request but at the same time, she didn't want to lie to her wife. They've come so far in their relationship, that she didn't want to jeopardize Taylor's trust.
"Driver, can you head back to our car please?" Karlie requested.
"Kar? Please talk to me."
"Taylor, not here. I promise I'll tell you when we get home." Karlie pulled the blanket up a little higher on the two of them as she wrapped her arm around her wife and kissed the side of her head.
They finally got back to the apartment and as soon as they walked inside, Taylor turned to her wife and asked her to please tell her what was going on.
"Come with me." Karlie said as she grabbed her wife's hand and led her upstairs. "Let's get changed and I'll tell you everything."
After they got changed, Taylor sat on the bed as Karlie sat down in front of her.
"Taylor, I don't know how to tell you this. Your dad asked me to keep this from you because both he and your mom didn't want to worry you before the baby was born. I wanted to honor that request and I told him that I wouldn't tell you. But deep down inside, I knew I had to. I was going to wait a couple of days before I said anything because I just wanted to collect my thoughts and have the right words. But since you saw the text today and you asked me about your dad's visit, I won't lie to you."
"Your dad told me that a little after Christmas, your mom went for a physical and mentioned to the doctor that she was really tired all the time. They ran a series of tests and found that your mom has cancer."
Tears immediately began to stream down Taylor's cheeks, as Karlie hugged her.
"Baby, I'm so sorry." Karlie said as she held her wife tight.
"This can't be Karlie, it can't be." Taylor cried as she hit her fist against Karlie's back.
"She didn't say anything to me Karlie. She seemed fine. Never did she say she was too tired and needed to rest or complain about anything. When is she having her treatment? Why didn't she stay in Nashville for her care? I just don't understand."
"Taylor, she's not getting treatment. Her cancer is too far advanced."
"Karlie, what does that mean? If she refuses treatment, she'll die."
Taylor just sat there motionless, staring at her wife before she got up and ran to the bathroom to throw up. Karlie followed behind her, holding her hair while she rubbed her back. After several minutes, she became hysterical again, sitting on the floor and placing her head against the wall.
Karlie's heart broke into a million pieces as she watched her wife. She sat on the floor beside her as Taylor leaned her head against Karlie's shoulder.
"How long?" Taylor asked.
"What babe?"
"How long does my mom have?"
"8-9 months."
Taylor held her head in her hands as she rocked back and forth. "Karlie, what am I gonna do without her?"
The model had no words. She knew there was nothing she could say or do that would calm her wife down. She just sat there and offered as much support as she could give. The two just continued to sit on the cold bathroom floor as Karlie just held her wife.
