Over the next few days, Karlie was kept in the hospital for evaluation. Her mom had come to see her along with Kristine and Kariann while Taylor had gone home to shower and get the baby ready but was now on her way back.
                              "How are you feeling sweetheart?"
"I feel good mom. I'm glad to be back, I guess." Karlie replied.
"You guess?" Kariann replied. "You didn't want to be here?"
"NO NO, that's not what I meant. I mean, it was an interesting experience."
"What do you mean Kar? Were you able to hear us?" Kristine inquired.
Karlie turned her head and looked towards the window as a few tears escaped her eyes. "Yeah, I heard everyone and I could feel you guys touching me, holding my hand and squeezing it." She looked back at her family as she said, "I felt so hopeless because as much as I wanted to come back, I just couldn't. It was like, being trapped but I wasn't afraid. It was so peaceful and quiet. The colors were so bright and..."
                              "Hi mama."
Karlie wiped her eyes quick as she extended her arms. "Hi bean, come see me and give me hugs and kisses."
Tracy picked the baby up, giving her a quick kiss before placing her on Karlie's lap.
                              "Did you miss me?"
"Yes. Me go potty." Mikayla said as she struggled to pull her sweatpants down a little to show Karlie her new underwear.
"Ohhh, pretty. You have little butterflies on your undies. I love them. Did mommy buy them?"
                              "Yes. Me big girl."
Karlie smiled as she pulled her daughter to her chest. "I know you are. You're my big girl."
"Is everything ok, Kar? You guys look like you were in deep conversation. We can step out, so you can finish." Taylor stated as she stepped towards the bed to grab Mikayla.
Before Karlie could answer, Kristine cut in and said, "Karlie was just telling us where she was while she was in a coma. Kar, you were saying how bright and peaceful it was. Were you in heaven?"
"Umm, no. It was almost like a waiting area where you can't move forward to heaven or come back to earth. You're like, stuck until you clear up unfinished business."
"How do you know that? Like did someone explain it to you? Did you just feel it? What unfinished business did you have?"
"Ok ok, Kariann, let's let your sister rest. I'm sure she'll talk about it at her pace, when she's ready. I know you're curious, we all are, but I'm sure it was an overwhelming experience she'll never forget."
Karlie smiled as she reached out her hand towards her mother. As Tracy extended her hand, Karlie grabbed her wrist and turned her arm over, to see the underside of her forearm. There, in front of her, were two little black and blue marks on the soft fleshy part. She ran her thumbs over the marks as her eyes began to fill up.
"Oh Kar, don't cry. I'm fine. I never know how I do that. I wake up in the morning and will have little bruises on me at times. You'd think I was fighting in my dreams." Tracy began to chuckle as she ran her hand over the marks and said, "I used to think it was your dad, just letting me know he was still here with me."
                              "It is." Karlie whispered.
Tracy at her daughter with a blank expression on her face.
"It is, mom. Dad gives you a little pinch, just like he used to when you were dating."
                              "Karlie, how did you kn-..."
"Because he told me. He was with me."
Tracy felt unsteady on her feet and quickly sat down on the edge of the bed. Karlie leaned forward and hugged her mom as the two began to cry. Mikayla just sat there, watching the two intently. Everyone else in the room began to cry, realizing that Karlie must of had a truly amazing experience.
