"Things are great," Louis told the man. "I'm starting to feel like I actually have a grasp on what's happening," he nodded.

"It's a good feeling," his manager agreed. He opened his mouth to say something else, but was interrupted by Louis' phone ringing.

"It's the school," Louis frowned, answering quietly. His face got more and more serious as he listened to what the other end of the line had to offer, and he quickly hung up and looked to his manager. "I have to go," he said slowly. "I have to get to the school."

"What happened? Is everything okay?" Louis' manager called, but he didn't get an answer, just the sight of Louis' retreating back as he ran away toward his car.

Louis' heart beat in his chest as he hurried toward the school, gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles were white. He only paid attention to the speedometer so that he wouldn't get pulled over and further delay his arrival at the school.

It only took about fifteen minutes for him to get there, and when he did, Louis hurried inside and into the main office. "Hi, I'm looking for the nurse," he said. "They called. My son is sick."

"Right through that door," the receptionist replied, motioning to a door right across the hall. Louis waved his thanks to her before he went into the hallway and then knocked on the door. A tall man opened the door, smiling kindly.

"You must be Mr. Tomlinson?" he guessed, and Louis nodded.

"Yes, you're the nurse?" he clarified.

"Sure am! I'm Nurse Avery. You can come on in, Niall's just in here getting a quick lie in," he opened the door and Louis entered, eyes falling on the cot in the corner where Niall lay, curled up in a miserable little bal with his arms clutched around his tummy.

"Hi, Ni. I heard you're feeling poorly," Louis whispered, running his fingers through Niall's hair.

"You came," Niall whispered, voice quiet. Louis cocked his head to the side but nodded quickly.

"I promised you I would. Was your tummy sick this morning?" Louis asked, and Niall nodded a bit sheepishly. "Baby, why didn't you say something?"

"Because school's important, Daddy," Niall whimpered. "Daddy, I wanna go home."

"Of course, lovely. You don't even worry, I'll do all the work. You just rest," Louis whispered He stood and turned to the nurse, who was looking at a sheet of paper, obviously trying to give the family privacy. "What do I need to do to take him home?"

"I just need to get you a medical sign out paper and then have you sign another paper and then you're free to go." Avery turned and grabbed a pen. "His temperature is ninety nine degrees Fahrenheit, so he's on his way to a fever but not quite there yet. He came to us with a stomachache following an incident in the classroom," the nurse explained.

"Incident?" Louis frowned, looking from Avery to his son and back as he signed. "What do you mean?"

"I threw up in class, Daddy," Niall whimpered. "All over my desk and math worksheet."

"Oh no," Louis frowned. "That's terrible!"

"It was yucky," Niall agreed before curling up a bit tighter. Louis turned back around to Avery, who was smiling sympathetically.
