You clenched the sheets in your fists, refusing to let go. Derek was next to you, asleep. It was a wonder that he could sleep through the thunder storm.

It had been raining that night, too. And every storm that hit forced you to remember.

"[Y/N]!" Theo screamed at the top of his lungs, chasing you down the steps at the front of the school.

You were panting heavily. Water splashed onto your leg as you stepped into a puddle.

You tried to settle back down into the bed and close your eyes, but a flash of lighting made you open them again.

You looked at Derek, considering waking him up. But you didn't want to bother him, especially not after everything he had done for you.

You had kept him awake on countless nights, talking to him about that night with Theo, letting him comfort you.

It wasn't long before he caught up to you. He grabbed you by the shoulders, and whipped you around to face him.

"I can't have this," Theo said. "I can't have you in the pack, you or Scott."

"Theo," you begged, but there was no point in asking for salvation.

Thunder rumbled through the sky again, making you jump. Derek woke up and looked up at you tiredly.

"Can't sleep?" He asked.

You shook your head. Derek sat up and leaned against the headboard, putting his arm around you. You leaned forwards and put your head in his chest.

You tried to fight your way out of his grip, but it was no use. As you struggled, Theo slashed you across the stomach with his claws. You fell to the ground in pain, putting pressure on your bleeding wound.

You rolled onto your back, and the blood began to wash away with the rain. You looked up at Theo, who was ready to strike.

You shivered as lighting struck again, sounding closer than you would like.

"Are you afraid?" Derek asked quietly.

"I'm always afraid."

As Theo's claws came down upon you for a second time, you started to drift out of consciousness.

The last thing you saw before you passed out was Derek, tackling Theo.

That was it. That was all you could remember about that night, the one keeping you awake, keeping you frightened.

It was PTSD. You knew it was. A couple weeks back, Derek was starting to get worried, really worried, so he sent you to a doctor. It wasn't a lot of help. They told you what you already knew.

"[Y/N]," Derek ran his fingers through your hair. "There's no reason to be scared."

"I know," you said. "I can't help it."

"I'm right here, okay? Don't be scared. Theo's not going to hurt you."

"I'm not going to be scared," you said, talking more to yourself than him.

"I'll stay awake for you, alright? I won't go to sleep until you do."

"Derek, no. You don't have to do that."

"Just sleep," he said. "It'll be okay. You'll be okay."

You snuggled up as close as possible to him, and started to drift away. It wasn't long before you fell asleep, thanks to Derek.

And he kept his promise. He was awake as long as you were, playing with your hair.
