QOTD: Favorite show (still airing)?
AOTD: RiverdaleSix months was a very long time to go without something. A lot of people have trouble imagining just what it feels like to go six months without their cell phone, or their car or their music player. You knew what it felt like to go without a necessity for six months. You went that long without Isaac.
"Hello," Isaac said bluntly when you opened the front door. There he was. After six months of radio silence, he was standing on your doorstep saying hello.
"Hello," you echoed just as emotionless.
"I'm back from France," he told you.
"Believe it or not I figured that out."
"Okay good. So I was wondering if you wanted to get together with everyone else? Scott, Kira, Stiles and Lydia."
"Yes. Sounds good," you answered monotonously.
"We could hang out at the park," he said. "I'll call them now."
This uneventful encounter led to you and the pack gathering around a picnic table, square with four little benches around it. Stiles and Lydia shared one, and so did Scott and Kira. You and Isaac each sat on your own. Everyone seemed ecstatic to see Isaac. Their reunions were a lot more emotional than yours.
"Should we get lunch?" Kira asked.
"Seems pointless," you told her.
"Everything is pointless and we all die eventually," Isaac said.
"Life is a rollercoaster that only goes down," you nodded.
"We begin dying from the second we are born."
"Life is the only cause of death."
"Life is ephemeral but death is eternal."
"Okay!" Scott snapped. "You two stop with the pessimistic dark and depressing stuff."
"Shut up, Scott," you said. "Go back to being a disgusting couple."
Scott, Kira, Stiles and Lydia synchronized their eye rolls. These four hadn't spent much time with you lately. They were always off on double dates, and you were tired of being their fifth wheel. Isaac's presence meant that you weren't the only single person there. Plus, you really only knew them through Isaac. You weren't the same person when you were without him.
"So, Derek left," Stiles said, looking at Isaac.
"Everyone knows that," Isaac sassed.
"We were thinking of contacting him," Scott said.
"You don't have his number," Isaac reminded them.
"Yes, Isaac. Thank you. We're well aware," Stiles said.
"Pessimism is the truest approach towards life," Isaac proclaimed.
"Life is an endless trail of negatively," you added.
"You guys have it all wrong," Scott said. He looked at Kira. "You just need to find someone positive to keep you afloat."
"Ew, more disgusting couple stuff," you crinkled your nose. "I hate how people just walk around trying to rub their happiness off on other people. I'm disgusted."
"Can I talk to you for a second?" Isaac asked quickly, abruptly changing the tone of the gathering. Everyone stared at him.
"Sure," you said, standing up.
Isaac walked into the shade of a tree, and you followed him. He seemed nervous.
"I don't know if you've realized this," he explained. "But I've been a little negative lately."
"I hadn't guessed by the way you said 'life is ephemeral but death is eternal'".
"It's just that I'm not happy being alone anymore," he said.
Everything suddenly seemed so serious. You crossed your fingers, hoping he wouldn't cry. You didn't have the time to awkwardly comfort anyone.
"I think I might be in love with you," he blurted out. "That's why I came back from France, and actually, that's why I left in the first place. And I know you see me as a friend, but I just had to tell you because I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn't take this chance."
"Isaac, what are you saying?"
"I'm saying I want to be a couple."
"Well, what does being a couple mean to you?"
"It means... I don't know. It means a lot of things."
"Choose one."
He looked at your friends. "It means sitting on the same bench."
"Then let's go sit on the same bench."
