Chapter 13

“I told you I don’t know what my father knew!” I screamed, a  damp cloth was covering my face and my head was lower than my feet. 

“Oh but you will.” Catherine replied as water poured over my face, I coughed and spluttered. Failing to get enough air in to my lungs. I struggled but was tied down and unable to move.

“Tell us Cammie.”

“No!” 

I gasped and woke up in bed. I shuddered at the memory and looked to Zach who was sleeping peacefully next to me. I sat up and took a sip of the water on the bedside table but knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep now. I got out of bed and pulled on an old sweater over my pajamas, pecked Zach on the cheek and slipped out of the room.

I walked to one of the windows that looked out of the front of the mansion and frowned as a cars tail lights left the main gates. I barely got to think about it before a Code Black alarm began to go off.

I swore under my breath and headed back to the room I was sharing with Zach.

“Cam!” He yelled coming towards me, “Where were you?”

“I had a nightmare and was taking a walk.” I told him, it was nothing new, I always went for a wander when I couldn’t sleep.

“Come on, we need to sort the kids out.” I told him.

“Yeah.” Zach nodded and we headed down to the Grand Hall.

“Everyone in to the hall!” Dr Fibbs was shouting over the alarm.

“Cammie!” Joe shouted from the bottom of the staircase. What immediately caught my attention was that Mom wasn’t with him, but she was the headmistress, there could be a hundred reasons why. Only one stuck in my head though as Joe ran up the staircase against the tide of girls that were running down it.

“Where’s Mom?” I asked him.

“That’s exactly it.” Joe told me, “I don’t know.”

“Joe.” I fell back slightly against Zach, “What happens if a teacher doesn’t check out before leaving?”

“Normally nothing but at the moment because of the notes...there’s a code black.” Joe’s words faded as he realised.

“Joe!” Abby and Edward ran over, “Where’s Rachel?”

“She’s been kidnapped.” I told them.

“How do you know?” Zach asked me.

“I was walking around because of a nightmare and out of the window I saw a car leaving.” I explained.

“What?” Abby asked.

“I bet any money it’s the Circle.” Zach sighed.

“It will be.” Joe nodded, “They want bait.”

“That means they’re both in trouble.” I swallowed.

Joe looked over the balcony where Dr Fibbs and Madame Dabeny were directing the last few students to the hall.

“Fibbs!” He shouted.

“Yes?”

“Rachel’s tracker?”

“On it.” Fibbs nodded and went off to his lab.

“Tracker?” Abby and I asked at the same time.
