Joe

I was swaying with Rachel on the dance floor late in the night, Cam and Zach had slipped out a short while ago but the rest of us were still here, apart from Liz and Jonas who had volunteered to take Kim to the hotel (A brave move on both their part and Abby’s). Rachel was resting her head against my shoulder, humming quietly to the music. She was always so relaxed these days, I leant down and murmured in her ear, “Tired?”

Her eyes flicked up to me and she smiled softly as she admitted, “A little,”

I kissed her hair and murmured to her, “If you want to go you can, I’ve got to stay and lock up though.”

“I’ll get a lift to the hotel when someone else leaves,”

Rachel glanced over to her sister and smiled more, “Who taught her to dace?”

I looked to where Abby was doing a waltz with Edward, that was a new one. Abby had never learnt to dance properly, not as a kid with Rachel, not at Gallagher, and not when it was required for a mission (I once had bruised toes as proof) So who had taught her to dance?

I smiled and murmured to Rachel, “I think she found the right man to teach her,”

Rachel laughed loudly and nodded in agreement, “Who would have thought, chalk and cheese?”

“Polar opposites,” I agreed with a smirk.

We swayed in silence for a while, Bex, Grant, Jonas and, Macey were having a drinking competition at the bar meaning the dance floor was practically empty.

I looked down as Rachel gasped and pulled away from me slightly, one of her hands reaching to her stomach.

“What?” I looked down to her hand as the shock wore off her face and was replaced with a grin. I relaxed a little but still wanted to know what had happened.

She took one of my hands and placed it against her dress, right where her had had just been. As I frowned she leant up to whisper in my ear, “A little someone wants to know what all the fuss is about,”

Then I felt it, the slight nudge coming from beneath my hand. The reminder of what was making Rachel tired, hormonal and, nervous, the baby.

I let the smile break on to my face as I rested my head against hers, we were both laughing happily. Right then it didn’t matter whose the baby was, it was alive, well and, strong. I kissed her because I was so happy, soft and gentle to start with, slowly getting harder and more passionate. We wanted each other, but she was too tired and I knew it. I pulled back and kissed her gently once more, “Go to the hotel and rest,”

Rachel bit her lip as her face turned a darker shade of red, “Will you wake me up when you get there?”

I smiled and nodded, “There’s a car waiting,” I told her, we had chauffeurs waiting for all of us all night to take us where we wanted and when we wanted.

I walked her outside and we both felt the nip in the air, I pulled off my jacket and draped it over her shoulders, “The room key is in the pocket,” I told her as she slipped in the back seat, “Text me when you get there,”

Rachel smiled at me, I knew she was silently complaining about my overprotectiveness.

She pulled the door shut and waved as the car pulled away.

I headed back in to the tent and took a seat at the bar, the music had changed to something more upbeat and modern for the kids to dance to.
