Macey
“What’s with you?” I asked Cam as she sped up the highway heading to the south of France. Bex and Liz were both asleep on the backseat. Cam had been off since we found Bex at the market.
“If it was Zach …” Cam trailed off, “If it was me …” I suddenly understood what she was implying, she knew that this situation had been reversed once, twice even — once with her and once with Zach. Both times Bex had become snappy at everyone and taken control, but Bex was always like that on missions. It was just weird to see it from Cammie.
She sighed and glanced over to me, “We’ll get him back.”
I nodded, when Cammie wanted to do something it usually happened. There was something else about her though, her hand kept moving to her stomach absentmindedly.
“Anything else?” I pressed gently.
Cam glanced to me and then the back seat. She swallowed hard and whispered, “I’m late.”
My eyes widened, “Does Zach …” Of course he didn’t know, she didn’t know for certain.
“I don’t know that it’s not just stress or something,” She sighed, “But it’s possible.”
I glanced back to Bex and Liz, happy that they were asleep, “Are you sure you’re ready for that?”
Cam pulled the car to the side of the road and looked to me, “That’s why we got married, so it was all official.”
I knew all that, she’d explained at the wedding reception why they’d gone for a quick hitch. Personally, I didn’t really blame them. Cam had thought that she’d lost her dad a long time ago, we all knew had he have been younger there was a slightly better chance that he would never have been gone.
“What are you going to do?” I whispered to her.
She shrugged and looked back out to the road, “Wait and see, I suppose.” She looked to Bex and Liz, “Wake them up, we’re close.”
I leant back and nudged Bex’s leg lightly. When she didn’t respond I punched it a little harder, “Bex, we’re close to Grant!” I snapped at her.
“No, he just passed us,” Cammie frowned, looking at the GPS tracker we’d got on him.
I sat back in my seat, “But the only thing that passed us was…” I trailed off and Cam finished for me as she swung the car around, “That white van.”
Bex sat bolt upright, “What?”
“Someone’s got him in that van,” I explained, passing Liz a laptop, “Get details.”
I cursed as my phone began to ring, Preston.
Cam smiled at me with a small laugh, “Answer it, he’ll only freak otherwise.”
“You just want to be nosey,” I retorted as I lifted the phone to my ear, “Hey,”
His voice was light as he answered, “I was just wondering how you were getting on?”
I glanced ahead to the white van that we were slowly gaining on, “Not bad, we’ve got a pretty good idea of where he is.”
“That’s good,” He told me, “Do you want me to pick you up from somewhere?” He was so sweet, even I had to admit it. I shrugged to myself and glanced to Cammie, “I’ll let you know when I know.”
His voice dropped a little in disappointment, “Oh,”
I sighed and shook my head, “I mean, yes I would like you to but I just have to work things out first.”
“Oh right!” He exclaimed in relief, “Okay, well, I’ll let you get on then,”
I laughed, “Bye, love you.”
“Love you too,” He told me before we both hung up.
“How are you going to stop them?” Bex leant forward and asked, “They’re not just going to stop for you.”
Liz also leant forward, “Statistically, because of the ditch at the roadside, it would be best to shunt them from the side.”
I looked to Bex, “You’d better hold tight.”
“Good job we’re in a big car,” Cam muttered as she pressed hard on the gas and swerved a little to get close to the van.
I screwed my eyes tight shut as we rammed the small van and braked suddenly to a stop. When I looked again Bexx was clambering out and running towards the van with Cam not far behind. The drivers door of the other car was opening and a single man stepped out, holding up his arms in surrender. Bex stumbled slightly before carrying on running. Only when I got out of the car did I realise who it was.
“Grant!” Bex cried as she flung herself at the driver. He hugged her tightly and swung her around laughing as he did.
Cam looked back to me in relief, he seemed fine to us. I took my phone out and pressed redial.
“Is there a problem?” Preston answered almost immediately.
I laughed lightly as I watched Bex kiss Grant, “Ring Zach and Jonas, tell them we’ve got him and to meet us in LA tomorrow.”
He sighed in relief as Cammie walked over to me with Liz, “Will do.”
We both hung up and I looked to Cammie and Liz, “Let’s get outta here.”
*
Bex and Grant talked none stop on the long flight home, keeping the rest of us awake. By the time we arrived in LA though, we were all exhausted and ready to sleep. As I walked off the jet with Cammie I murmured to her, “You should tell Zach, he’d want to know.”
She paused and sighed, “I just don’t want to be wrong and make him upset,”
I gave her a ‘duh’ look, “He loves you and won’t be mad, or upset,” I smirked, “And if he is, send him to me.”
Cam laughed and nodded as the boys came in to view, Zach came over and hugged her tightly, she pulled back though causing him to frown. She sighed and glanced to me, “We need to talk in private.”
He took her hand and dragged her to their car, Bex and Grant had already driven off, and Liz and Jonas were just getting in his car. I looked to Preston and smiled, “Hi,”
He took my hand, “You look tired,”
“I am,” I admitted and leant against his shoulder, “Do you mind driving?”
He laughed and shook his head, “Not at all.”
He slung an arm around my shoulder and kissed my hair, “I love you,”
I slipped in to my car seat and waited for him to get in his side as I curled up on the comfy seat, “I love you too.”
A/N Hi guys, I'm afraid I've got some bad news for you, I don't feel like I've got any more to write with this story. I've used up all my plot ideas and am struggling to come up with something new without copying other peoples ideas. I'm thinking maybe another chapter and then some sort of summary / epilogue, I do have scraps written for things I had had planned but I don't feel motivated to link them all up so I may just post them before the epilogue as one shots? What do you think? Thank you for all your support with the story, I've enjoyed writing it up until now and hope you'll check out some of my other works!
