Chapter 45

Things were a blur, I knew from my plan that Jonas and Grant would have something ready to get us out of there. Liz had already taken a jet with her parents and Macey’s parents leaving a helicopter and a second jet for the rest of us that needed to go back to the school.

I’m not entirely sure why or how but I ended up on the Jet with my parent’s, Joe and Edward and everyone else on the helicopter. I think it was to do with who knew how to fly and who didn’t.

“You alright Kiddo?” Mom asked me as I sat with my head in my hands.

“Yeah,” I looked up, “Are you?”

“We’re all fine,” She reached out to me and squeezed my hand, “Don’t worry, Macey will be okay.”

‘I-” I was cut off by Joe talking over the radio to us, “Hold on guys, we’ve got company!” He warned, I glanced towards the ground out of my window, three men with long range guns were aiming at us.

I gasped as a hole was punched in the wall by my seat but I didn’t see where the bullet went.

“There’s parachutes in the locker at the front,” Edward told us, “Get them out and on, they’ve hit the fuel,”

“Damn,” Dad cursed as he grabbed the parachutes and flung them at us.

“What about you two?” Mum yelled at them.

“We’ll be right behind you,” Joe promised her, “When I say jump,”

Dad opened the door to the plane as we dropped close to the trees. We all spotted the large empty space as the planed passed over it.

“Now!” Joe shouted, Dad pushed me out first with mom and him not far behind. 

As I landed I heard an explosion not so far away, looking up I could see four other parachutes floating down. A pain shot up my leg as I went to walk over to the lake we had landed by and I fell to the ground.

I cured quietly as Mom ran over to me, “What is it?” She panicked.

“I’m hit,” I winced as I sat on the grass. 

Mom took a look at my leg, gently pulling and pressing around the wound, “I can see the bullet, it’s not deep,”

“Here,” Joe passed her a first aid kit, “I radioed the others before we jumped, they’re coming to get us.”

“They might be a while,” Mom shivered as a breeze blew around us, 

“You go with Matt and Edward to get some wood to burn,” He told her.

We were almost back at the school, Macey had fallen unconscious a while ago and I could only hope she’d be okay. I winced as I felt a cramp in my stomach, Don’t you dare come now! I thought.

“Zach?” I called through the headset, “How far off are we?”

“Two minutes,” Zach replied calmly, unaware of the crisis I was having.
