Chapter 56
Macey"Team beta on duty?" I checked as I scanned the area, three men with ear pieces had moved in to the room my team was in suggesting I was about to be relieved of duty.
"Rodger," a woman directly across the room from me responded, "Alpha team is relieved of duty."
I watched quietly as the first members of my team headed for the exit. As the head of the team I would be last to leave once I was happy Beta team were doing their job. When I was happy I left the party and headed down in to the basement levels of the headquarters. I pulled my jacket tighter over my shoulders as I stood to have my retina scanned.
Preston knew I was going to be late back but he didn't need to know it was so I could check up on the woman who had ordered the death of his father.
Turns out I wasn't the only one checking up on her."What are you doing here?" Zach half smiled to me as I neared the cell I was after.
"Checking up on her." I glanced to the red haired woman in the cell, she was asleep now but something told me she knew we were there even though it was one way soundproof glass.
"Where's Cam?" I asked him.
"Hotel," Zach shrugged, "Asleep,"
"And what are you doing here?" I pressed.
"Trying to find out what she wants now," he sighed and shook his head, "Cam doesn't know though,"
"Why?" I frowned, Zach bit his lip and looked to Catherine before looking back to me and grabbing my arm. He dragged me back up two levels to a cafeteria, we each got a coffee and sat down to talk."Cammie has only just started to get rid of the nightmares," Zach sighed, "I wanted to tell her what I was doing but I daren't incase it brings them back," he looked like he was guilty of something, "I have already caused some,"
"What do you mean?" I asked him, "Why would you give her nightmares?"
"Lastnight," He shook his head and swallowed, "and I didn't tell you this but..." His voice dropped to a whisper, "last night we did more than sleeping in our bed,"
"You mean?" I gasped, the two of them had had sex!? I had expected Cammie to be one of the last of us to do that, but as they say- it's always the quiet ones.
"I didn't tell you!" Zach reminded me,
"Sure," I nodded.
"Anyway," he sighed, "This morning she had a major breakdown because she had remembered something last night,"
"Seeing Catherine might throw her over the edge," I nodded, understanding where he was coming from.
"I'm meant to be seeing Catherine tomorrow," Zach shook his head, "But I don't know about Cam,""Tomorrow's my day off," I offered, "I could take her out for the day if that helped?"
"Are you sure?" His head snapped up.
"I was meant to spend it with Pres but he won't mind if I explain it to him," I shrugged.
"I still don't get what you see in him," Zach shook his head. I laughed and hit him playfully, "I don't see what Cammie sees in you, but I don't go around complaining!"
"Alright!" Zach held up his hands, "I'm sorry."
"I'm going," I got up and hugged him, "See you tomorrow,"When I got back to my flat I slipped off the black dress I was wearing and headed to the bedroom.
"Now there's a sight," Preston smiled as I passed through the lounge.
"Don't go getting any ideas," I rolled my eyes at him, "Is there any coffee in the pot?"
"I'll make fresh," he jumped up and came to hug me, "I do love your attire Ms," He kissed my jaw in just the right place, making me shiver.
"Not now Pres," I sighed, "I need to ring Bex and talk to you,"
"Why?" He was suddenly suspicious.
"I'm going to have to pass on lunch tomorrow, Zach has asked me to look after Cammie because she's had a nightmare the other day and he doesn't want her knowing what he's doing."
"Okay," he shrugged, "Can we do the weekend instead then?"
"Sure," I kissed his cheek, "Now make me coffee while I get changed."
"Of course,""Hello?" Bex answered her phone a while later as I lounged on the bed sipping coffee, I had a feeling this would be a long phone call.
"Chameleon has lost the V," I told her, receiving a very loud, girly squeal in response.
"No way! With Zach? When? How do you know?" She was slightly more hushed now but still loud enough for me to hear her. So I set about explaining how I had met Zach and repeated our conversation word for word."Geeze," Bex sighed as I finished, "I always thought one of us would be first!"
"I thought so too!" I agreed, "Cammie was always so innocent!"
"But they do say it's always the quiet ones huh?" Bex pointed out.
"I suppose," I agreed, "But Lizzy ..." I didn't need to say more before Bex interrupted.
"There's innocent and then there's Liz!" Bex laughed, "Will you say anything tomorrow?"
"No, Zach begged me not to," I told her, "We will just have to wait for her to tell us herself,"
"Which might be never," Bex pointed out.
"You never know," I shrugged to myself, "how are things there?"So we spent the rest of the evening chatting about what had been happening in our lives since we last spoke. I eventually decided I needed to sleep and explained to Bex that it was late here despite it only being lunchtime where she was. She told me that I should pull an all nighter but I decided against it and went to bed, looking forward to seeing Cammie tomorrow.
