Cammie

Chapter 31

Zach and I were in a remote area of Russia, hiking through the dense forest.

“Managing?” Zach asked as I took his hand so he could pull me over a icy patch.

“Yeah,” I looked up to the sky, a few weeks and it would be christmas, here in the deep crisp snow I didn’t doubt it.

“Want a break?” Zach offered as he moved to sit on a boulder.

“If you’re not up to going any more,” I teased as I moved up next to him.

Zach laughed and took out his phone to check the estates website, he frowned as he passed me the phone, “Abby wants us all to find them,”

“What?” I read the screen and understood what he was saying.

“It sound’s suspicious,” Zach pointed out.

“We need somewhere to find them from,” I looked around, “We could head to France and track them from there?”

“Sounds good to me,” Zach nodded as we moved off the rock and headed back the way we had come from the village.

A few days later we managed to get a secure line to ring Abby.

“Hello?” Joe answered.

“Joe?” Zach and I frowned at each other.

“Cammie?” He sounded as surprised as we were.

“Abby was meant to answer,” I told him, “She left a message and we tracked her,”

“Is she with you?” Zach asked.

“Yeah,” Joe sighed, “She came looking for your mom Cam,”

“How is everyone?” I asked,

“You’ll see when you get here,” Joe told us, “I assume you’re coming?”

“Yeah,” I nodded, “We’ll find you,”

“Okay,” Joe hung up and I passed Zach the phone for destroying.

I lay against Zach’s chest that night, wondering why Joe hadn’t answered my question.

“What’s up?” Zach stroked my cheek as I pulled the duvet further up over us.

“Just cold,” I lied to him.

“I meant, what are you thinking about?” Zach shook his head.

“Joe didn’t answer my question about how everyone was,” I sighed, “Why?”

“He was probably worried about the line,” Zach shrugged, “Shall we go shopping to get some presents tomorrow?”

I laughed at his sudden change of subject, “That’d be nice,”

Late the next afternoon we ran for cover at the rain turned to hailstones. We squashed under a canopy with a crowd of other people, forced to be right up against eachother.

“What will our parents say,” Zach whispered in my ear as he leant down, “When they find out we have been sharing a bed?”

I giggled and kissed his cheek, “I’m sure they’ll understand.”

We headed back to the hotel so I could wrap the presents while Zach ordered some food and began to pack.
