Chapter 39

I moaned and pulled away from Zach as the phone in the room rang, It’s 2 AM! Who’s ringing at this time?

“Are you getting that Gallagher Girl?” Zach asked.

“Yeah,” I sighed and sat up to answer the phone, “Hello?”

“Ms Morgan,” A menacing voice answered, “I really thought your parents were better than this … but their going to walk right in to my trap and get that third wheel killed. Such a shame.”

Before I could say anything he hung up. I went to go back to sleep, replaying the message in my head.

“No!” I gasped and shot back up, suddenly wide awake.

“What’s up?” Zach sighed.

“Mom, Dad and Joe are in trouble,” I looked to him, “We need to go somewhere secure,”

“I know a place,” Zach rubbed his eyes, still half asleep, “It’s about a day’s drive from here but it’s secure,”

“Where?” I asked.

“Safe house, north of lake Geneva,” He yawned,

“I need secure not safe,” I shook my head at him.

“When I say it’s a safe house,” Zach rolled his eyes at me, “It’s Liz’s sort of safe house.”

My eyes lit up, the only downside was how far away it was … It’ll have to do.

“Let’s go,”

That’s why I sat inside on the hottest day in Lake Geneva’s history, typing hurriedly on my computer.

What we knew about the situation-

It wasn’t just Mom, Dad and Joe that had been kidnapped, Abby and Edward had been too

We weren’t even sure Joe had been kidnapped as I assume he was the “Third wheel” the caller was talking about

They were/ had been somewhere in New Orleans

Zach and I couldn’t get them back on our own.

Zach had flown over to America while I continued the search from Geneva, Bex, Liz and Macey were on their way but I’d persuaded them to leave their respective partners behind.

When they had all arrived I explained what I knew and what Zach and I had already done.

“It sounds like their after a fight,” Macey told me when I’d finished, “Why else would they leave Joe, who will know what they look like, and tell you what they were doing?”

“I know,” I nodded and glanced over my shoulder to the computer screen to check for any change in the search for Joe, “But if they wanted a fight why not just come and get me?”

“We’ll work it out,” Bex squeezed my shoulder reassuringly.

“Why would they leave Joe?” Liz frowned.

“We don’t know they did,” I reminded her, “I just assume he’s the “third wheel” and has been left.”

“We-” Macey was cut off when the phone rang.
