Chapter 19

"No." I whispered stepping back from the broken body, his dishwater blonde hair matted with dirt and blood, his normally tanned skin pale, brown eyes dull and lifeless.

I'd only just got my dad back, I couldn't loose him again.

"No!" I sobbed and woke up.

Zach stirred in the bed beside me but only rolled over, I sighed and looked to the clock, it was three am. I wouldn't go back to sleep, I was worried about my parents. I slipped out of the single bed and padded down the corridor towards the staff's quarters. I opened moms bedroom door a crack to find the bed half empty, Dad was asleep in the bed but mom was missing.

"Looking for me?" Mom murmured behind me.

"Are you alright?" I turned to face her.

"Just needed some painkillers." Mom assured me as she turned on her crutches, "Why are you up?"

"Nightmare." I stated.

"How about a hot chocolate in my office?" Mom offered with a smile.

"Go on then." I nodded and followed her as she swung in that direction on her crutches.

"What was it?" Mom asked as we drunk the warm, creamy drinks a little while later.

"Dad, dead." I told her simply.

"Oh, Cam." Mom sighed sympathetically.

"We've just got him back," I wiped my damp eyes and leant forward to hug her, "we can't loose him again."

"I know." Mom stroked my hair, "We won't, I swear to you we won't."

"I know." With a sniff I got up and went to her desk for a tissue. There I noticed a small envelope.

"What this?" I frowned holding it up.

"I don't know." Mom shrugged, "I've not been up here." I took it over to her and allowed her to open it.

We know where you are. You don't deserve to play happy families. We are waiting for your move. Hurry up and make it.

Mom and I looked to each other, I'm sure the worry on her face mirrored my own. We both knew what this meant. None of us were safe.

"Shall I-"

"Yes," mom nodded, "send Joe first."

"Okay." I was already half out of the door as she finished.

I waited outside joe's door when I heard him push the covers back and get out of bed.

"Cam?" He frowned.

"Mom's had another note." I told him, "She wants us in her office."

"I'm on my way." Joe turned back to pull on a jumper while I went to wake the others.

"Cam?" Zach complained when I turned on the bedroom light.

"Mom's had another note." I told them, "Are you coming?"

"Yeah." Bex jumped out of bed and pulled on a cardigan, "Guys come on." She ordered.

"Zach." I stopped him as he went to follow the girls.

"What's up Gallagher Girl?" Zach cupped my cheek with his palm.

"They're not just after Mom anymore." I whispered, closing my eyes as Zach leant down to kiss my lips.

"We will be fine." He assured me as he pulled away.

We walked in to moms office last and Bex passed Zach the note.
