Chapter 53

Cammie

I sat on the window seat with the curtain pulled around me, watching quietly at the last limo took the last student away for summer. The halls around me were now quiet and empty. Other than for one person,

“Gallagher girl,” Zach called, “Come out come out wherever you are?”

I pulled the curtain back but didn’t move from my spot, Zach would find me here soon enough.

“There you are,” He smiled and I moved to let him sit with me. How he smiled I didn’t know, I must’ve looked a mess. I hadn’t slept much since we’d come back and last time I checked my eyes were black with tiredness.

“Have you seen Joe?” I asked him as I rested my head on his chest,

“No,” Zach rubbed my back, “Why?”

“He said I could talk to him about it,” I explained, guessing that Zach would know what it was.

“Are you sure you’re ready to?” He cocked his head to try and look at my face but I kept it hidden.

“Yeah,” I sighed, “And I want to share a bed with you tonight,”

We hadn’t shared a bed in what felt like months but was probably only a couple of weeks. I’d been afraid of worrying him with my nightmares but having thought about it, I would probably have fewer nightmares if I slept with someone.

“Finally,” Zach chuckled a little before straightening. I followed his gaze out of the window to the drive, my parents and Joe stood there. It looked like dad was yelling at Joe.

“Come on,” I got up and took Zach’s hand.

Joe

I’d been dreading this day all week. I was about to tell my best friend that his wife might be pregnant with my child. He seemed happy with the way our three way relationship was going and I really didn’t want to mess it up now.

But it had to be done because we all knew Rachel was not going to have an abortion.

“Matt?” Rachel took a breath and squeezed my hand as the last limo left.

“Yeah?” He smiled to her as she dropped my hand.

“I think the three of us should go for a walk,” I interrupted, stepping down on to the drive. Rachel followed me but Matt hesitated.

“What’s wrong?” He was already sceptical, this wasn’t going to be good. Brace yourself Joe. The wrong side of angry Matt is not a good place to be.

“Come for a walk Matt,” Rachel forced a smile, nerves getting the better of her.

“Tell me what’s going on,” He looked to me, “Joe?”

“It’s not his fault Matt!” Rachel spoke too quickly after the question was asked, all her training had gone out the window.

“He didn’t know it was going to happen,”

“What was going to happen?” Matt’s eyes darkened and he stepped towards me, Rachel stepped back, possibly slightly afraid, “Someone tell me what’s going on!” He shouted.

“I’m pregnant,” Rachel spat out.

“What!?” Matt was beyond angry now as he gave me a death glare and stalked towards me.
