Cammie- Chapter 15

Cammie POV

Chapter 15

“Have you got her?” I asked Dad as he lifted Mom out of the helicopter that had picked us up from an airport.

“Yeah.” He nodded, the flood lights caught a stray tear trail on his cheek that hadn’t yet dried off.

It was close to midnight and we had only finished telling our story twenty minutes ago and it had affected Dad more than I had expected.

“Come on, I know the back way in to the infirmary.” Abby shut the helicopter door before leading us down the side of the mansion. 

As our group slipped in to the small hospital wing of the school Dr Fibbs came rushing over.

“Bex, Liz, Macey.” I turned to my friends, “Go and wake all the staff please, we’ll be up to the Grand Hall soon.” The three of them nodded and went.

“Matthew, this is Doctor Fibbs.” Joe introduced them, “Fibbs, Cameron’s father.” 

“What happened to Rachel?” Fibbs asked.

“Fell down a fifty foot cliff, hit her head on the way down and was shot in her left thigh.” Abby listed, “I did as much as I could for her on the plane.”

“I’ll check her over and do what I can for her now.” He told us.

“We need to go and talk to everyone.” I stated as I reached to my side for Zach’s hand.

“I want to stay with her.” Dad refused.

“Dad, I need you to come and see the staff. Joe will stay with her, won’t you Joe?” 

Both men must have realised what I was saying as they both shared a glance before nodding. Joe needed time to give her up, and a chance to be alone with her to get his head straight would help greatly.

“Okay.” Dad sighed, “I’ll come.”

“Thank you.” I turned for the door and lead the way up to the Grand hall for possibly the hardest speech of my life.

I sat on the stage, just like I had little over twenty four hours before and waited with Zach, Dad, Abby and Edward.

"Where's Rachel?" Buckingham asked as she walked in at the head of all of the staff which Bex, Liz and Macey followed.

"She's okay." I crossed my fingers and thought, I hope.

"What happened?" Harvey asked.

"First I'd like to introduce to you my Dad." I gestured to my side, "Matthew Morgan." Dad nodded as there was as gasp and muttering. 

"Does Rach-"

"She knows." Abby nodded.

"Where is she?" 

"In the infirmary." I looked down, "She fell off a cliff and was shot when we found her, before we found her she'd..." I shook my head.

"She's been badly beaten." Zach finished for me and squeezed my hand in reassurance.

“Where’s Joe?” Patricia asked.

“With mom.” I told them, “He wants to repay her for last summer.” He’s going to loose her either way, I added in my head.

Everyone turned to the back of the room as Dr Fibbs came in.

“How is she?” Dad asked the unspoken question.
