Abby

Chapter 42

As I was thrown in to the back of the van I winced and pulled myself upright.

“Abby,” Edward came over to me as the door were slammed shut and we were plunged in to darkness.

“I’m sorry,” I cried, “I didn’t want to fight with you,”

“No,” He pressed his forehead to mine and stroked my cheeks with his thumbs, wiping away my tears, “It’s okay, I know,”

“Abby,” Rachel looked to me, “Are you okay?”

“Yeah,” I swallowed the lump in my throat and nodded, “I feel fine,”

“Have they done anything to you?” Edward’s eyes glistened in the little light coming from above us.

“No,” I whispered, “They looked after me pretty well,”

“Good,” Edward kissed my head and pulled me against him as the van jolted forward.

“I was scared,” I whispered, resting my head on his shoulder, “That they’d do something to the baby,”

“I’m sorry I didn’t come after you sooner,” Edward sighed, “I hate myself for it,”

“It’s okay,” I smiled softly to him, “I forgive you,”

“Don’t worry Abby,” Matt looked to me from where he hugged Rachel, “The kids and Joe will get us out,”

“I just hope it’s soon,” Edward sighed and rested a hand on my belly.

“Yeah,” I sighed and leant in to him, “It’s a long way to where we’re going if they’re taking us to where I was,”

“Rest,” Edward told me, “All of you, I’ll stay awake,”

“Thanks Edward,” Matt nodded to him as I closed my eyes to dose against him.

I was a fly-on-the-wall watching myself in the cell that I had been in before they’d taken me to the others. My arms were tied to the bed, hair loose and sticking to my sweaty face. I groaned and cried out in pain, “Please,” I cried out, “Help!”

I strained and struggled before trying to double up in pain, “No,” I cried, “Not now, please,”

I jumped awake and looked around the van, Matt was asleep but Rachel and Edward were watching me, “What was it?” He stroked my hair back.

“Nightmare,” I swallowed and rubbed my bump, “I was in labour and they still had us,”

“It’s okay,” I told her, “You’re still a few weeks off,”

“Only three,” Rachel pointed out,

“We thought four or five?” I frowned to my sister,

“I got a blood test when you weren’t paying attention,” Rachel shrugged, “Either way, we’ll be out by then,”

“Yeah,” I whispered as the van jolted to a stop and the engine stopped.

“Matt,” Rachel nudged him, “We’re here,” He stretched in the limited space as the door opened, outside it was dark. Edward pushed me behind him before he was pulled out with Rachel and Matt.

I didn’t fight back as I was yanked out of the van, but when I was pulled in the opposite direction of the others I panicked.

“Abby!” Edward yelled as he fought against the masked person to try and get to me.

“Edward,” I cried as I was pulled away, he broke free and began to run towards me,

“Edward stop!” Matt commanded, “Abby,” He looked to me, “You’ll be fine,”

I didn’t doubt his statement as I was dragged away.

“I love you!” I yelled to Edward as I went.

I was left in the cell like room, and it was really just a prison cell, metal door, basin, toilet and metal bed. There was a pasta salad on the bed waiting for me when I was left, only then did I realise I was hungry.

“I hope your dad is getting this five star treatment,” I murmured as I sat on the bed and tucked in to my dinner.

Rachel

“Ow!” I exclaimed as the three of us were thrown forward on to a concrete floor.

“You alright?” Matt asked as he pulled me up,

“Yeah,” I nodded and looked around the brightly lit room, well, it was more like an old warehouse.

“There’s some blankets here,” Edward called from a few feet away.

“She’ll be fine Townsend,” Matt told him, “We’ll make sure of that,”

“Yeah,” He came and sat down, he exhaled heavily and ran his hands through his hair.

“She’ll be fine Edward,” I reassured him, “I’m worried too,”

“I know,” He half smiled to me as I took a blanket and lay down next to Matt.

Over the next few days we got plenty to eat and drink, and handwritten notes off Abby saying she was okay. What we didn’t expect was our next arrivals.

It was our third day after arriving when the doors opened, I stood with Matt and Edward in the centre of the room, tense.

“We’ve got some more friends for you,” One of the men scoffed as they threw in Macey’s parents.

“You will hear from our security about this!” Mrs McHenry shouted as she straightened herself.

“Ms Morgan,” Mr McHenry walked over to us.

“Senator,” I forced a smile, “How are you?”

“Well,” He looked around us, “Do you know why we are here?”

“No,” I sighed, “But I’m sure Macey and Cameron will get some of the best to find us,” I looked to Matt, “This is my partner, Cammie’s dad,”

“Nice to meet you,” The senator nodded to him.

“And this is my sisters partner,” I nodded to Edward,

“Where’s your sister?” Mrs McHenry asked.

“We believe she’s somewhere here,” Edward sighed, “Why we don’t know.”

I breathed a quiet sigh of relief, despite everything he was keeping up our cover.

“All we can do is wait,” Matt sat down.

So wait is what we did.
