Chapter 44

Things Ellie said, "Cool."

Things Liz's parents said, "Ridiculous."

Things Mrs McHenry said, "Not Macey."

Things Mr McHenry said, "Is this a joke?"

Things they all had to admit: it was true.

"Think about it," I looked to Liz's family, "why didn't she go to a college close to home?" 

"Because they didn't offer the course she wanted to take." Her mother insisted.

"Because she was offered a job in our in hacking computers, making concoctions, inventing the most unimaginable things!" 

"That does sound like Lizzie." Ellie nodded.

"What about Macey?" The Senator asked.

"All she wants me to tell you is that she's glad you sent her there." I replied.

"So you're all spies?" Ellie looked to the Baxter's and the rest of my family.

"Yes." Mom nodded.

"Cam." Dad pulled me aside, "Are you alright?"

"Yeah." I nodded to him and glanced back to the rest of our group, "What about you and Mom?"

"Not bad." He nodded, "Do you have any idea why they want you all?"

"No." I shook my head, "Our only guess was to do with the circle but... We're not sure."

We all turned as the door opened and a man stepped in with two guards.

"Cameron, I don't believe we've be properly introduced." The new man smiled to me.

"You evidently know who I am." I replied, "But who are you?"

"You can call me Dan." The man smiled.

"Well, Dan." I stepped to the front of our group, "You got me, you don't need them now."

"But we do need them." Dan looked past me, "You're only a fifth of what we're after."

"I know who you're after." I snapped at him, "And we both know they'll come for me, so you can let the rest of them go."

"Haha." Dan laughed, "Let them go so they can attack me with your own little group?" His guards stepped forward.

"Fetch Matthew and Rachel." Dan turned to leave.

"No!" I shouted.

"Cam, it's okay." Dad told me, "We'll be fine."

I looked between the two of them, my parents. I knew they'd watch each others backs, but did that mean they'd be okay?

"I love you both." I whispered. The two of them nodded before leaving with the guards.

"What's the plan?" Grace asked me when we were sure we were alone.

"We wait." I told them and took a seat on the floor.

"Cammie?" Ellie came and sat next to me.

"Yes?" I glanced to her.

"What's Liz like as a spy?"
