 Chapter 60

Zach

“Gallagher Girl,” I reached out and took Cammie’s hands from her lap, “What’s wrong?”

“Please don’t be mad at me,” She swallowed as tears began to glisten in her eyes.

“What is it Cammie?” I pulled her in to my lap as tears broke free from her eyes and made their way silently down her cheeks.

“Zach,” She wiped them away, “That time we had sex,”

She used the actual word, I thought It must be serious!

“Did we use protection?” She finished, making me nervous, I could easily see where this was headed but decided not to jump to any conclusions.

“Of course,” I smiled at her, “You know I wouldn’t risk …” I trailed off as Cam shook her head and whispered, “I’m pregnant Zach.”

I held her tightly as she began to cry, I assumed she was afraid of what our parents would say. After all, we were really still just kids ourselves.

“When did you find out?” I stoked her cheek when she calmed down a few minutes later.

“This morning when I got up,” She sniffed, “My mom came and found me so I had to tell her, she’s in the bedroom now,”

“Okay,” I smiled, and kissed her head, “Are you alright?”

“I don’t know Zach,” She shook her head, “What am I going to do?”

“Hey,” I stopped her, “You’re not on your own here,” I told her, “I’m here, not going anywhere.”

“Okay,” She smiled a little as I noticed Rachel coming through. She smiled to me, assuring me that I wasn’t about to be killed.

“What do we do Rachel?” I sighed.

“You’ll have to tell your boss she’s pregnant, they’ll call her in for a health check.” She explained to us,

“I’ll probably go on leave  in a couple of months,” Cam sighed.

“When do we tell the others?” I sighed.

“I’ll ring James and get  health check hopefully tomorrow,” Cam bit her lip, “We can tell them tomorrow afternoon then?”

“Sounds good,” I agreed.

“I’d better be heading back,” Rachel got up, “Call me if you need anything,”

“Thanks mom,” Cammie got up and hugged her mom before she left.

“Come here,” I reached out for her.

“You’re not mad are you?” Cam sighed as she curled up in my lap.

“Why would I be mad?” I rolled my eyes, “I got you pregnant, it’s my own fault.”

“Shut up,” Cam muttered before kissing me roughly, her lips prying mine open. I pulled away and smiled, “You’re already pregnant, you don’t need to try any harder,”

“Zach,” Cammie moaned, “I want to do it again, please? I’m almost certain I won’t have a nightmare again!”

“You’ll tell me if you do?” I checked.

“Promise,” She nodded, “But I need to ring James first,”

“I’ll wait for you in there,” I kissed her head and went through to the bathroom, picking up one of the old towels and throwing it in the hamper. As I did I saw a plastic stick clatter to the floor. I knew what it was before I picked it up and looked at the single word on the small screen confirming that Cammie was indeed pregnant.

I wasn’t quite sure what I felt.

Afraid- of her dad, Joe and my dad and what they would say.

Excited- to see Cam grow in the way Abby did.

Nervous- of being a dad.

Relieved - that at least Rachel was on our side.

“What are you thinking?” Cam asked as I looked up,

“I don’t know,” I shook my head, “It’s just a shock,”

“Yeah,” Cam nodded and took a breath, “James is going to get me an appointment for first thing,”

“Great,” I walked over to her and hugged her tightly.

“Zach?” Cam looked up to me, searching my eyes, “You are okay with this, aren’t you?”

“I wouldn’t be anywhere else,” I smiled to her before kissing her gently, “Now I thought you wanted to go to bed?”

We spent most of the rest of the day in bed, only getting up to eat or watch a film of Cammie’s choice. Something was niggling at the back of my mind though, something Catherine had said to me earlier today …

“What does she want?” I asked James and I glared at the one way glass to Catherine who sat in a straight jacket in the interrogation room.

“To talk to you again,” James shrugged, “She won’t tell any of us anything.”

“Let’s get it over with,” I sighed and opened the door, “What do you want?”

“That’s not a very nice way to greet your mother Zach!” Catherine frowned at me as I sat down.

“You wanted to talk to me, so get on with it.” I snapped at her.

“I wonder,” She cocked her head to the side, “If you’ve slept with that little girl,”

“She’s not a little girl,” I growled at her, “Why?”

“I’m not after you, or her any more … but I’m after something from you.” She smirked.

“Me? Or her?” I frowned.

Catherine just lifted her forefinger and thumb to her lips and dragged them across in a zip motion. I got up and stormed out of the room, not in the mood for her games.

I couldn’t help but wonder now exactly what it was Catherine was after. Cam rested her head on my shoulder and yawned,

“Want to go to bed?” I offered her.

“I’m okay for now,” Cam smiled up to me, “Are you okay?”

“Just lost in thoughts,” I told her truthfully, “We’re both good aren’t we?”

“Of course,” Cam frowned, “Why?”

“Just be careful for me will you?” I sighed.

“Of course,” Cam nodded, “I will be so careful now,” She rested a hand on her stomach and I rested mine over it.
