Bex
“… ninety eight … ninety nine … a hundred,” I counted as Grant sat up one final time and leant across to kiss me. I laughed against his lips, “I love you,”
“I love me too,” He winked as we got up.
I looked to the secretary that came in, “Baxter, Newman, James wants you in his office.”
“We’re on our way,” Grant nodded.

I looked through the folder we had been given, what better excuse for two weeks in France- rogue assets were always easy to handle but often took time to be completed.
Grant took my hand as we walked up to the flat, taking our time together, “Are you okay?”
I nodded, “Just thinking when Cam and Zach will come back to work,” They’d been away for two and a half weeks now and we hadn’t heard from them in all that time.
Grant chuckled and swung me up in his arms, “I can show you what they’ve been so busy doing … you just have to say the words.”
I shook my head, “I’m not ready,”
He sighed and rolled his eyes, “I’ll wait,” He pecked my lips as he set me down and opened the door to the flat.
“Thank you,” I smiled as we both went to pack.
Three days later I walked with Grant through a farmers market, tailing our asset. He held my hand tightly so as to not loose me in the crowd.
he pulled me over to a stall that was offering tasters of fresh bread and handed me a piece, it was still warm from the oven and the dough was slightly sweet in my mouth.
I laughed as Grant leant down to whisper in my ear, “He’s gone down the alley, I’ll follow him. You check for other exits.”
I smiled and kissed him before he went, I bought one of the loaves from the stall before following him and heading around to the other side of the buildings that made up the alley.
The warm autumn sun was hidden by the houses, the cold shadows engulfed me making me wish I’d bought a jacket. I froze when I heard a gun shot.
“Bex!” I faintly heard Grant cry out. I was about to call back to him when I was grabbed from behind and throw to the floor.
I winced as my head cracked against the pavement but still pushed myself up to fight back. If they’d shot at Grant then I needed to beat them now, but I must’ve hit my head hard. As I handed out kicks and punches I felt myself go dizzy and faint, all it took was one blow to my gut and I fell back on to the pavement in a pool of black.
I woke up in what had been our hotel room, my head throbbed as I tried to sit up.
“Don’t get up,” Cam stopped me, pushing me back in to the pillows, “That’s a nasty lump you got.”
I reached up to my forehead and winced as my fingers brushed over the lump there, “Where’s Grant?”
Cam shrugged and sat on the edge of the bed, “Lizzy is working on it,” She sighed, “He got taken at the market.”
I put my head back and closed my eyes again, “I don’t remember what happened,”
“We don’t either,” I looked up as Macey came in and folded her arms, “But we know what he’s seen.”
I sat upright, “What?”
Cam shook her head and looked to me, “All you need to know is that he thinks you’re dead.”
“What!?” I gasped.
Macey looked to Cam, ignoring my exclamation, “I think she should know,”
Know what? I thought as I looked to Cam.
“No,” Cam held firm, “She doesn’t.”
I looked between them and it suddenly clicked, Grant had been taken, what would they be doing to him… it was suddenly obvious, “Torture,” I whispered.
Cam looked to me, her face softened, “Possibly,”
I breath shook as I exhaled, they might be torturing him, that I could cope with, Grant was strong, Grant would fight.
Grant thought I was dead though so I couldn’t shake one fear away — what if he was letting them?
I shuddered under the duvet but I wasn’t cold.
“We’ll get him out Bex,” Cam stood up and grabbed a towel from the back of a chair, “Get a shower, get dressed, and pack.”
I bit my lip and nodded as she left with Macey. I wondered briefly while I was washing my hair if Cam was being so snappy because she knew what Grant was going through. Or maybe it was stress.
My thoughts were cut off when I winced because I caught the lump on my head. I quickly finished rinsing my hair before getting out of the shower.
When I was dressed I turned to the drawer that Grant had filled with his clothes. I pulled out a sweater and pressed it against my nose, the sweet, slightly musky scent calming me down. I thought for a second, considering what the others would say if I wore the jumper, then I decided it didn’t matter and pulled it on anyway.
“Can I come in?” Cam opened the door a little as I began to stuff clothes in to the duffle bags on the bed.
“Yeah,” I glanced to her as she came in, “Has Liz got anything?”
Cam shrugged, “A lead for us to follow,”
I sighed a little in relief and paused as I zipped up one bag, “I don’t know what I’d do if …” I trailed off as a lump formed in my throat.
“He’ll be okay,” Cam stood up and hugged me tightly, “It’s Grant, of course he will be!”
I forced a smile and nodded to her, “I wouldn’t trust anyone more to tell me.”
Cam kept an arm around my shoulder as we each took a bag, “I wouldn’t let anyone else tell you it.”
