Bex
Chapter 23
“Bex.” Dad shouted me as I carried through the tray of tea, “Have you seen the news?”
“No,” I shook my head, “why?” I didn’t miss the glance that my parents shared as Grant came in behind me, “What is it?” I swallowed, fearing the worst.
“There’s been an explosion, at a theme park.” Dad told me slowly, glancing to mum.
“So?” I shrugged, like that was the least of my worries right now.
“Look at the CCTV.” Mum told me as she rewound the channel before pressing play.
I searched the screen for the two people I knew could have been there, praying that I wouldn’t see them.
“No.” I swallowed and shook my head, spotting the coat that was too familiar and the t-shirt that I had given to my friend as a birthday present two years ago.
“Where was it?” Grant asked my parents.
“About three hours drive north of here.” Dad shrugged.
“Grant,” I turned in his arms and gripped his shirt, “Grant, we have to go and find them… we have to-”
“When did it happen?” Grant cut me off.
“Around lunch time.” Mum explained, “Bex, Cammie and Zach will be long gone if it was them.”
“And what if they didn’t get out?” I sobbed, “Please Grant.” I begged him, “We need to go and find them.”
“No.” Grant shook his head, “We need to check the estates website.”
“Fine.” I pushed past him and headed up to the guest room that we were sharing.
“Anything?” Grant asked tentatively as he stuck his head in the door a few minutes later.
“It’s loading.” I snapped back at him before sighing, “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.” Grant wrapped his arms around my shoulders, “I’m worried too.”
“After everything they’ve been through Grant,” I shook my head, unable to continue.
“They’re probably just on the move.” Grant assured me, “Will her Mom and dad know?”
“Probably knew before us.” I nodded, “The school is watching us.”
“That’s kinda creepy when you put it like that.” Grant chuckled and kissed the side of my head.
“Yeah.” I smiled softly, “Did the news say if any foreigners had been there?”
“I don’t know, why?” Grant frowned.
“Liz, Macey.” I shrugged.
“They probably have tabs on you all.” Grant told me.
“Yeah.” I leant in to him.
“Don’t worry.” He murmured in to my hair, “The boys will look after them.”
“They better had.” I smiled, “Or they’ll have me to answer to.”
