Chapter 50

Rachel

“What’s up with Joe?” Matt asked me once Abby and Edward had left, they had a flat not far from here that they promised to stay at for a while.

“I don’t know really,” I shrugged,

“Talk to him later?” Matt asked me, “He’s no good at following his own advice!”

“what? Not keeping things cooped up?” I guessed,

“Exactly,” Matt nodded and kissed me, “Shall I go and check on Cammie?”

“Yeah,” I got up, “I’ll come too,”

“We bought you some lunch!” Matt announced as we stepped in to Cammie’s hospital room.

“Hmm?” She looked up to us, her eyes sleepy.

“Matt,” I scolded, “You woke her!”

“I didn’t know she was asleep!” He exclaimed.

“It’s okay,” Cam sighed as she sat up, wincing as she stretched a little, “I was only half asleep,”

“Sleep is important for getting better,” I kissed her head, “How are you feeling?”

“Better,” She smiled and took the soup in a mug that Matt had nabbed from the kitchen, “Abby bought Kim to see me,”

“You’re not the baby of the family any more,” Matt told her, “I bet that feels good!”

“Yeah,” Cam nodded, “So come on, tell me what you three have been up to since Zach and I last saw you?”

I smiled at how she automatically used ‘three’ instead of just referencing her dad and I.

“Well …” Matt began to reel off what we’d been doing since easter when we had all met in London.

“I’m going to nip in to town,” I sighed and got up, “I fancy a walk.”

“Okay,” Cam smiled to me as I went.

I smiled as I walked down the main road in town and spotted Joe sat in a UPS van.

“You’re making an awfully bad habit of stealing these vans.” I scolded him as I climbed in the passenger seat.

“Needs must,” Joe shrugged, not looking at me.

“What’s up?” I frowned at him, “You’ve been off with us since you went to talk to Cammie,”

Joe looked to me finally and sighed, “It’s beyond complicated Rach,”

“Talk to me Joe,” I sighed, “You mean as much to me as Matt does, you know that don’t you?”

“Do you mean it though?” Joe pulled a face.

“Hell Joe!” I almost shouted, “The three of us might as well be in a three-way-relationship! Infact I’d go as far as to say we are.”

“It’s not about the relationship type,” Joe shook his head, “I’m fine with being in a polyamorous relationship!”

“Then what Joe!?” I threw my hands up, exasperated.

“It’s the town summer dance tonight,” Joe changed the subject, “Meet me on the bale that Bex, Liz and Macey hoisted Cammie off,”

“Okay,” I sighed, knowing I wasn’t getting anything else out of him and somewhat disappointed by that fact.
