Danny walked down the road towards his mother's house. He couldn't leave the town. He wasn't going to leave his mother. At least, not when she was so worried. So, instead of leaving, he bought a house down the street from her. Well, him and Matt did. They were happy with it, even though it was a tad small. His mother was in the kitchen on the phone when he arrived.
"I expect to see you soon. Is that understood? If you're so worried then prove it," she said sternly.
"Ma? Who are you talking to?" Danny asked. Immediately she ended the call and turned to her son.
"No one honey. Just an old friend," she replied. Danny smiled. He was glad she had a friend to talk to.
"Ok," he said. Chance meowed and he bent down to pet her.
"They both really miss you," she explained. Jake ran up to him next and purred as soon as his hand touched him.
"I know Ma," Danny replied.
"Why don't you take them home with you?" She asked, bending down to pet the orange long-haired cat.
"I can't take them. They're happier here anyway," Danny replied. He smiled at the cats that had grown up so much.
"Alright. Chance has actually become my little snuggle buddy. I'd be sad to see her go," she laughed.
"So I was wondering. Could you teach me how to make a pie?" He asked, his eyes shining bright.
"You want to learn to bake?" She asked, surprised. His entire life, he'd always hated baking.
"Yeah," Danny laughed.
"Well then. Let me clear the table," his mother replied. Once the table was clear, she showed him how to bake. She showed him, just like she had tried a million times before, but this time he listened.
