Letters, Day Outs & Lonely Couches - Chapter 40

I sipped at my coffee, having just woken up a few minutes ago. After I finished writing my little letter, I had put it in the envelope and made a few adjustments before I went down to Louis' house and placed the note neatly on his work desk, then when I got back home I went to sleep. It was 5:03 AM when I went to sleep, so I ended up sleeping mostly all day, in between Jasper's cry.

I remembered I never got the chance to talk to Caraline so I decided to call her, not being able to turn to Jade anymore. We hadn't talked in forever, even since she had gotten a boyfriend.

"Hey, it's Perrie." She answered the phone with a cheery voice - enthusiastic as always.

"Hello. Is something wrong?" she asked, concern lacing her voice. It was probably very weird to her for me to call like this - out of the clear blue, something I've never done before.

"No, I just wanted to talk." Sure, I was definitely beating around the bush, but could you blame me? It was already bad enough I had cheated on Zayn - multiple times - but to tell somebody about it? That was even worse. I didn't know what she would do with this information - she could've went off and told Harry, who could've told Zayn. How bad would that make me look? Even though I deserved it.

"Oh! Well, alright. But I'm a little busy right now. I'm at work. You could call me later. I should be back home around 8 o'clock tonight," she said, sounding unsure.

"Oh, okay, that's fine. Have a nice day, bye." Before she could respond, I just ended the call and sighed. What now?

Standing from the couch, I decided to just take Jasper out. It wasn't that late and we hadn't had a day alone for a while. Most days I was with Louis.

So I got Jasper ready, dressing him in a tiny sweater and sweatpants, putting socks on his feet, then I put him in the car, buckling him in his carseat. I then got into the drivers seat, resting my head over the steering wheal while I waited for the car to heat up. Sighing, I sat up, backing out of the driveway.

Pulling into the parking lot of a baby nursery store, I got Jasper from his seat and carried him in my arms to the building. Going inside, I put him in the stroller, and strode down to the sippy cups aisle. Purchasing a few sippy cups, baby cereals, and other essentials, I left the place.

It was pretty late when I got back home. It was 7:32 PM so I needed to give Jasper a bath. Running the water, I made sure the temperature was perfect before gently putting him in the water, holding him up to make sure he didn't slip. Bathing him, I got him ready for bed, rocking him to sleep after feeding.

Gently I gave him a kiss to the cheek and placed him in his crib, pulling his blanket over him and pulling the door ajar. Walking down the stairs, I received a phone call.

"Hello?" I asked.

"I'm on my way home," Zayn said flatly, no emotion laced in his words whatsoever.

"...Okay." I was unsure of what was happening. I didn't know if he was mad or what, and would he take it out on me. It wasn't my fault, technically. It's not like I told Louis, "Hey, come over when we're not home and then start a fight with my husband!" No, that's not what happened.

"Yeah. I'm hungry, so just make sure dinner is finished for me." He spoke more coldly this time, angered.

"Okay..." I hesitated.

"Bye." He hung up without even giving me an 'I love you.' What kind of man is he?!

Rolling my eyes, I went into the kitchen to prepare some food for Mr. Grumpy. I decided to take the easy-way out and prepare a simple pork chop dinner. I made sure I had it on the table by the time he was home.

Instantly, all he did when he came home, was sit at the table where his food was, silently. He bowed his head, and he prayed and blessed his food, but he did it without me. I had my food ready! He didn't pull out my chair, he didn't say hi, he didn't look at me, he didn't thank me - he just ate in silence.

At the loss of my appetite, I angrily wrapped my food and threw it in the refrigerator, annoyed at his attitude.

"You might as well sleep on the couch!" I spat at him, fighting back tears.

"So this is my fault now? Listen here, I'm not the one ruining a relationship...for the second time. I think it's you, who might as well sleep on the couch. Because I'm not giving up my bed for someone that could possibly care less!" he yelled.

"Shut up! You're going to wake up Jasper, as usual!" I whisper-shouted to him, throwing my hands down dramatically.

He lowered his voice. "Care to explain why the ever before living dead, he was in my home?!" He emphasized on the word 'my.'   

"I don't know, okay! I gave him a key only so that he could drop something off..." Most pathetic lie ever.

"I'm so sick of your lies! All throughout this entire relationship, the only thing you've been doing is lying. And I'm getting sick and tired of it. Do you even realize how much this is effecting me? How hurt I am by all of this? I just...I can't!" With those words, he took off up the stairs, closing our bedroom door. Shockingly, he didn't slam it. I heard the 'click' of the door locking, and I sighed. I messed up...again.

Literally, I was beating myself up. He didn't even let me grab my pillows. I wondered what he was doing in there. But I didn't dwell on it. I was hurt enough already. I just wanted him by my side and I planned on telling him this tomorrow.

Grabbing a pillow and blanket from the hall closet, I slept on the couch, dreading to wake up tomorrow...
