Zayn's P.O.V.
( July 22nd, 6:47 PM )I was standing in the foyer of the house I was fixing up, Shawn looking through some papers. He was listening things we would need, all the important things. Paint, woods, wallpapers, etc. etc.
"Hmm," he began, biting his lip, unsure. "I don't know," he said. "Do you think wallpaper would fit the living room more than paint? I feel like wallpaper would compliment the dining room." He glanced up, tapping the pencil against the notebook.
"I honestly believe wallpaper always fits better in a dining room, but they said to give them something extravagant...and frankly, that's not too different. Every house I've worked on, and many others I've seen, used wallpaper instead of paint in the kitchen." I shrugged, folding my arms over my chest.
"True. Maybe we could try paneling..." He groaned. "Forget I even said that. Paneling is just...bleh." He shook his head. "Hey! What about masonry on one half of the wall, and something different on the other?" I thought for a minute.
"It's actually not a bad idea. We'll give it a try. I just hope it turns out right. I would hate to have to change it again." I laughed.
"Well, I'm going to cut out the pipelines. I'll be back." He grabbed the tool box and went on his way down the hall. I grabbed for my working gloves just as my phone went off. I had it in my bag so it wouldn't get lost. I leaned down and picked it up, looking at the caller ID. It displayed a picture of Perrie, her name underneath. I smiled and answered.
"Hey love, how are you?" I spoke calmly.
"Zayn, someone's in the house." She was frantic. I can't even begin to describe the perfect word for it. My heart jumped up ten inches.
"What do you mean? There, with you?" Even though I knew exactly what she meant, I decided to make sure she meant actually there.
"Yes, Zayn, here with me! He's downstairs." My mind began to race with thoughts.
"Have you called the police, and where are you?" My calm demeanor wasn't paying off too well.
"I'm hiding on the side of the bed, where you sleep, and no."
"In my nightstand, there should be a gun, grab it. I'll send police down there, and where's Jasper?" I was hit with the sudden realization that Jasper was in the house.
"Harry and Caraline have him," she said, followed by, "Zayn, they're on their way here. Stop them. Please." Her voice was barely above a whisper, but I heard her as clear as day.
"Get that gun. Hide in the closet behind some stuff. Don't come out no matter what, and if you have to, shoot." I hung up quickly, and rushed down the hall. "Shawn," I said frantically.
"Yes?" He turned around and his smile faltered when he saw my worried expression. "What's up?" I had no time to explain everything to him, so I didn't.
"I can't explain right now. But here, take my phone and call the dial of a 'Harry.' Okay?" He nodded. "Tell him that he and Caraline cannot go to the house and drop off Jasper. If they ask questions, just tell them there's been a break in. Tell Harry who you are. Give me you phone." Without question, he gave me his phone.
I called 911 and waited for an answer, anxiety building up. "Hello, what's your emergency?" the man on the other line spoke.
"I need you to send help to," and I began, just like that, to tell the police our address information and to bring as much help as they could. They said okay, and went on to do so.
I knew it wasn't safe to call Perrie, and at this rate, it wasn't even safe to text her. I walked back over to Shawn.
"Just don't go down there. Turn around and go home." Shawn was dealing with it. I gestured for him to give me the phone. "I'm giving the phone to Zayn." He passed me the phone and I nodded a thank you.
"Harry."
"Zayn, what's going on? Is Perrie okay?" He was worried beyond belief.
"I hope so. I can't contact her right now, and neither can you or Caraline. I sent police down there."
"I'm going down there," he said, serious. "Don't try to stop me because you're not here to do so. Saying no won't stop me."
"Okay, okay. But be careful. I don't know anything other than that someone's there. It could be multiple someones for all we know." He sighed.
"Okay, we're pulling up in our driveway. I'm going to grab some gear and head to the house." I heard car doors close and wind.
"Okay. Try to stay out of sight, and be quiet."
"You're talking to Harry Styles, Zayn, I know what I'm doing. I'll call you when everything's okay." He hung up and I looked at Shawn. He was ghost-like, white in the face, scared. Worried.
"Everything's going to be okay," he said. He looked like he didn't believe that, and, being only 19, he probably didn't.
"I know." That's all I said. I didn't want to worry him anymore than he already was. Even though Shawn wasn't a part of the, not even a family friend, he still cared like he was. He cared as thought he'd known me for years. But it's only been a few days. Literally.
I sat on the floor, staring down at my phone, awaiting a call I more than likely would be getting until hours later. But I couldn't help the anxiety. Then I got an idea. I stood up and turned to leave without a word.
"Where you going?" Shawn asked, following me.
"To get the first flight back to U.S." I kept walking.
"I'll go too," he said. I didn't argue. Instead, I stopped and turned to face him.
"Do you have family here?"
"No. I'm from Canada, and the only family I have is there. I was here for the same reasons you were." I nodded.
"You can come."
