23 - Stay with me tonight

Your boyfriend had just broken up with you earlier that day. You'd spent the day crying in bed, and texting your best friend Riker, who was trying really hard to make you feel better.

What made it even worse was it was storming out, and your parents were gone for the weekend. Being alone at night during a storm made things extra gloomy.

The worst thing of all was that you had depression.

This break up basically gave your depression almost full control over you. The irrational thoughts were almost everything in your head right now, minus the little amount of focus you had while texting Riker.

He was trying to calm those irrational thoughts. And to be honest, it wasn't working too well.

Your phone started ringing. It was Riker, so you answered it.

"What?" You asked, sounding bored and upset.

"I can't tell by your texts how you're really feeling. Are you feeling any better, or no?"

You sigh.

"No, not really," you mumble, becoming close to tears again.

"Ok, well... I'm coming over. I'll be there in five."

He hung up, and you sighed. You didn't particularly feel like having his company right now, but it might be a good distraction, so you didn't tell him not to come.

You waited in your bed. Riker knows where the spare key is...

5 minutes later, Riker was in your bedroom. He sat down on the edge of your bed.

"Hey... I brought some movies, and I brought a half eaten bag of peanut butter M&Ms."

"Thanks..."

You sat up as Riker slid into bed next to you. He picked your laptop up off the ground, and put one of the movies on.

He slid his arm around you, and you leaned your head on his shoulder, trying to watch the movie, and not think about your ex.

Later...

The movie was finally over, and you succeeded in not bursting into tears during it.

"So... Feel any better?" Riker asked, quietly.

"No..."

You looked at the clock. It was almost midnight.

You kept having a lot of irrational thoughts. It's what depression did to you, especially now with the break up. It was hurting you even more.

Riker started putting his shoes on and packing up.

"I'll text you, ok?" Riker asked.

"Riker, wait," you say, your voice cracking.

Riker stops dead in his tracks, staring at you.

"Can you please stay with me tonight? I don't really trust myself alone," you say, just above a whisper.

"Yeah, of course!"

He slides his shoes off again. Luckily, when he came over, he was wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt, so you don't need to find clothes for him.

He slips back into bed next to you, and wraps his arms around you in a hug.

"I seriously don't know why he'd break up with you. You're beautiful, and funny, and sweet..."

You pull away from the hug, looking at him, curiously.

"Look, this probably isn't the right time, but I really like you. And I know you just broke up, but I just thought you needed to know that you are good enough for someone. And he didn't deserve you anyways. He's just another stupid guy. And I get it if you don't like me like that, or you don't want to date right now, but I just thought you should know..."

His eyes were gleaming, and full of love. You slowly move closer, and kiss him.

You pull away, and lay down in bed. Riker lays down beside you. You wrap one arm around his chest, and cuddle into him.

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight, Riker..."
