99 - Can't sleep
Riker was finally home from tour, so you decided to call him and see if he wanted to hang out. You haven't seen him in forever.
"Hello?"
"Hey. I was wondering if maybe you wanted to hang out tonight."
"Oh... Um... To be honest, I haven't really been sleeping very well since tour ended. I'm just really tired."
"Why haven't you been sleeping well?"
"I just... I don't know..."
"Riker, are you ok?"
"Yeah. I'm just tired."
"What if you came over and we just watched a movie? We don't have to do anything. We can just chill. And if you fall asleep, it's fine. I just want to see you."
"Ok."
"See you soon?"
"Yeah. I'm leaving now."
"Ok. Bye, Riker."
"Bye."
While you wait for Riker to get here, you wonder why he isn't able to sleep. He sounded super tired and out of it on the phone. This just isn't like him.
When he gets to your house, you let him in and bring him up to your room. He immediately gets in your bed, which you know he loves because of all the blankets on it.
You get in beside him. He lays down on his side and snuggles down under the covers, wrapping his arms around you tightly.
"So why haven't you been able to sleep?" You ask.
"I don't know..."
"Riker, did something happen?"
"Yeah..."
"What happened?"
Riker takes a deep breath and sighs. You can feel him becoming tense, so you put your arm around him and start rubbing his back to try to make him feel better.
"On our last night... We were all asleep on the tour bus. And it was parked somewhere. We weren't driving... I woke up in the middle of the night to a bunch of people banging on the door, trying to break in. My dad called the police and they never broke in, but I just haven't really been able to sleep since that happened."
"Riker, that's not going to happen here. You're safe."
"I know. But I just can't sleep."
You run your fingers through his hair and he closes his eyes. You put on a movie, hoping he'll be able to fall asleep now that he's at your house.
Later...
Riker suddenly jolts awake and sits up beside you, panicking.
"Hey. You're safe. It was just a dream," you say.
He lays back down with his head in your lap.
"Rikes, you ok?" You ask.
"I'm just freaked out," he says, quietly.
"You're safe. I promise."
He wraps his arms around you tightly again. You start rubbing his back some more, trying to get him to calm down. You can tell he's still a bit panicky.
After a while, you can feel his body becoming less tense and you hear soft snores coming from him. You're glad he can finally get some rest.
