20 - Drowning

"Riker, you can't swim yet. You just ate."

"You seriously believe in that stuff?"

"I'm not taking any chances."

"Ok, you can sit on the side of the pool and watch me then."

You sigh, and walk to the edge. Riker smirks at you as he jumps into the pool, getting you a little wet, but it doesn't matter because you're wearing your swim suit.

You sit on the edge of the pool with your legs dangling in the water. Riker is showing off his tricks on the diving board now.

He swims to the surface with a weird look on his face.

"Rik, you alright?" You ask.

"Ow! My foot is cramping."

He's treading water in the middle of the deep end, trying to hold his foot with one hand.

Suddenly, his phone starts ringing.

"Can you get that? It's probably Ross wondering about band rehearsals."

Riker's voice is strained, and you can tell he's having a hard time staying afloat while dealing with his foot cramp.

"Riker, get out of the pool."

"I'm fine! Go get my phone please!"

You sigh, and go inside to get his phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey, it's Ross. Is Riker there?"

"He's in the pool."

"Oh... Well tell him to give me a call about band rehearsals."

"Ok, Ross."

"Alright. Thanks."

"No problem."

You hang up, and walk back out. Riker is now under the water.

You walk over to the pool, trying to see what he's doing. You walk over to the deep end and look down.

Riker is flailing wildly at the bottom.

You jump in, grab him around the waist, and pull him back up to the surface. You climb out of the pool, and pull him out.

He's laying flat on his back on the cement, coughing like crazy. He rolls over onto his stomach, and gets up on his hands and knees. He starts coughing up a ton of water. You pat his back lightly until he stops coughing.

He sits on his heels, and sighs.

"You alright?" You ask.

"I'm done swimming for today."

"Riker, you almost drowned. I wouldn't let you get back in the pool today even if you offered me a million dollars."

"Next time... I think I'll wait after I eat."

"Good idea."
