"I'm so glad you're here" I said as Rob gave me a hug as I walked in the door.
"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else" Rob said holding me tight. We sat down on the couch, "but, it is after midnight. It would be nice if you could come home a little earlier."
"Rob, I'm working" I said.
"I know you are, and I understand occasionally working late, but when you were in Boston, I was almost always home by six. Maybe you can give me that same respect?" Rob said rubbing my legs.
I looked at him, "I'm still making up from being in Boston so much, and then going on vacation" I said, "and I have publicity events."
"We need to start doing those together" Rob said, "I don't want to sit here all night while you go to events. We can suffer through them together."
"Okay, I promise I'll try to include you more in my work" I said, "but you know what the bonus of me having an event and then coming home late is?"
"I've been thinking about seeing you all night" I said leaning in and kissing him.
"You always know how to talk me out of being mad, don't you?" Rob asked when I pulled away.
"Rob," I held both his hands, "right now I have to work a lot, but I'm serious you are a priority. I've been looking forward to you being here, I've missed you. I had to work late tonight, but I blocked out my morning for us. I'm making an effort to have more balance and just let work go when I get home."
"Okay" Rob said, "I believe you for now, but I'm going to stay on you, I mean when you get super stressed it's just a downward spiral that no one can stop."
"So I mean it's after midnight, and I was up super early, do you think we can head to bed? It's pretty cold, I was hoping to cuddle." I said
"Absolutely" Rob said following me to my bedroom.
"Can we catch up tomorrow morning? I just can't tonight" I said getting into bed.
"Whatever you need" Rob said stripping down to his underwear.
I felt arms wrap around me and I felt at ease.
"Rob, I'm sorry I worked so late tonight" I said looking into his eyes.
"Babe, it's okay I get it" Rob said "We can talk tomorrow just get some sleep."
"I just, I want you to be happy" I said
He gave me a confused look, "Caroline I am happy."
"I know you wanted me home tonight early" I said, "I should have made more of an effort to do that for you."
"Caroline, this is your time to work" Rob said, "I have to be okay with that too. I just was looking forward to being with you and I forget that you work just like I do."
"Well being that tomorrow is Valentine's Day, I'll be home at six" I said, "I promise."
"Just be home by seven" Rob said leaving a kiss on my forehead. "It's not about one of us having it all, it's about compromise. When you walked in today, I was selfish. You've been in Boston taking care of me for awhile, it's time for me to be your cheer leader."
"But you're right, you were always home at a reasonable hour" I said, "but that's not my life."
"I also don't have to take care of you twenty-four-seven because you get injured" Rob said, "it all evens out."
"I promise you, we will figure out how to do things in Nashville, there's just going to be an adjustment period, I'm used to being here alone."
"Caroline, right now I want you to be a little selfish, you always do everything for everyone else" Rob said, "I should have remembered that."
"I'm sorry" I said, closing my eyes.
"Don't be," Rob said kissing my forehead.
Authors note: how are things looking for Caroline and Rob's time in Nashville?
