SHEMAR's POINT OF VIEW

"How is Peps doing?" Ma asked me as I placed the groceries on top of the kitchen island.

She came over my house to cook dinner. It's something she does every once in a while. I appreciate it but sometimes she can ask too many questions about what Cheryl and I have going on.

Yeah, she's my Mom but I don't have any interest in her being in all of my business.

"She's fine." I said as I kept my answers short and started taking the items out of the bags.

"So, you two messing around still?"

"It's not messing around. She's my woman. We do what we do." I told her as I looked over towards her and met her eyes with my own.

"I'm just making sure, aight? You two were sneaking around while she was married and I didn't really like that, Shemar. You know better."

"She wasn't supposed to be his in the first place." I softly said as I then grabbed some of the food and walked over towards the refrigerator. "She was supposed to be mines."

"God said otherwise."

Before I could open the refrigerator, I turned around to face her. "Mom, why is it that everyone we talk about Cheryl and I's relationship- you have something to say? Yeah, we fooled around and that's only because we wanted to. It's not like I forced her to do it. She wanted me just as badly as I wanted her and I didn't step back after finding that out. I love her and you know this. I've been loving her and since she's divorced- that's just an open door for us to freely be together. I'm done with that sneaking around stuff. I want her to myself and I finally have that. So, let me be happy." I explained to her.

She sighed and continued taking things out of their bags.

I just shook my head, turned around and opened the refrigerator to put the food up.

"I do want you to be happy. I just wish that you hadn't interfered with her marriage. I taught you to respect people and what you did wasn't respectful. Hasn't it ever hit you that you broke someone's family?" She asked me.

"I didn't break anything. I didn't do any of this by myself either."

"I hear you. It's your life, son. Do what you wanna do but you need to make better choices this go around."

"I will." I finally said with a small huff as I turned around once more. I then reached behind me and closed the refrigerator.

Before we knew it, the doorbell started to ring.

"She's here. So, please- be nice and don't say anything about what we were talking about." I told her as I looked her sternly in the eyes and started walking towards the front door.

"Yeah. I love Cheryl. It's just you and your dumb ways." She told me. I didn't respond because I was already down the hallway. I just brushed it off.

Once I made it towards the door, I opened it without asking who it was and found Cheryl standing there smiling. However, her smiled faded once she saw how frustrated I was looking.
