SHEMAR's POINT OF VIEW
"Ah, there he is! Came to play some ball on this beautiful day?" Jeff asked me as he sat down next to me on the bleachers. He peeked down at my phone that I held in my hands but I rushed to stuff it in my gym bag in between my legs on the floor. "She still not answering?" He added.
I looked at him with frustration. "No, she's not. Can y'all stay out of my damn business? It was Toni and now it's you. Don't ask me questions," I spat at him as I harshly zipped up my gym bag.
He looked at the side of my face as if I had smacked him with my words. "Well damn, man. I'm just trying to see how you and Cheryl are doing. Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed..."
"Yeah, well- you have no choice when you lost someone that you love more than anybody on this planet..."
"More than your Moms?"
"Yeah, I would say so. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love my Moms but I love Cheryl too. Plus, my Moms is annoying. We don't get along like that..."
"What do you mean?" He asked me as he squinted his eyes at me and then looked at the people who were shooting around on the court before we were to start a run through.
"I don't know. She didn't really want Cheryl and I to ruin our friendship like that. Plus, she's mad at me because I broke up Cheryl's marriage. I didn't do that, honestly. I wasn't the one who was riding my own dick. We both ruined it. How could we not when we both wanted each other? It was bound to happen," I explained to him as I too looked out at the people on the court.
"Man, you need to go get her."
I looked at him and sucked my teeth. "What the fuck you think I've been trying to do? She doesn't wanna talk to me, see me or hear what I've gotta say. I sent her flowers the other day and each one contained a handwritten note. I still didn't get a call, a thanks or anything. I even called Marla who works at her job and she also said that Cheryl didn't buy it. I don't know what to do, man. I really don't. It's all Tony's damn fault and when I see that nigga- I might just kill his ugly ass. He is such a bitch and that was a bitch ass move!"
"Yeah, I agree. Showing your and her shit to the world was cruel as fuck. I done see yah dick almost ten times by now."
"Nah, I had somebody take the video down. It's gone..."
It then became silent between us. An awkward type of silence. However, I needed some silence in my life because I've been moving around nonstop trying not to break down because of all of this.
Suddenly, Jeff looked over at me and then I looked at him as well.
"Shemar, I just want you to be happy, man. I know you love that woman to death and yo, I just wanna see you marry her. You know? I just hope you ain't wasting no time," Jeff told me in such a sincere voice. I nodded my head and then leaned back on the bleachers.
"I want to be happy too. I'm tired, Jeff. Sometimes I get tired and frustrated. I don't know what else to do..."
"Go. Get. Her," he rushed to tell me.
Next, he punched me in my shoulder and jumped up to his feet.
I rubbed my arm and looked at him as if he were crazy.
