The next morning, all I heard was silence. You almost forget that they started fighting last night from all the deafening quiet. I got up and walked out of my bedroom. Max was sitting on the couch watching TV. I kept walking to the kitchen as my stomach started growling.

"Mornin' baby," Momma said. I turned toward her with a smile on my face.

"Mornin' Momma," I said as I walked into the kitchen. Then there was crunch, crunch under my feet. I jumped back looking down at the broken plate pieces that I just steeped on. Good thing I was wearing my shoes.

"Oh be careful, please sweep all that glass up for me. I'm not feeling to good, so will you do that for me?"

"Ok, yeah sure," I said looking back up at Momma. Looking closer, I saw bruises up on her chest and shoulder. My gaze moved to her face and there under her jaw was another bruise.

I grabbed the broom from beside the fridge and started sweeping up all the glass from the plate.

Matt walked out of the bedroom. I saw there was cuts on his forehead and chin. I guess that his face is what caught that plate last night.

He walked over to Momma and picked up the cigarette box. He tapped her on the shoulder and spoke in a low quiet tone.

"Hey Selena, I'm gonna' go to the store to get some cigarettes, you want anythin'?"

"Oh no thank you, I don't need anything."

As he walked out the door he mumbled an alright before slamming the door shut.

Why did they start fighting? They weren't fighting before. So why do they start now? I love them...why can't they just get along?

When I was done with the sweeping, I went and sat down next to Momma.

Taking her hand in mine I asked, "Are you ok?"

"Oh yes baby, I'm fine. I'm just a little tired. But I'm ok."

I let it go and things go on. Despite last night's fight with them, they got along pretty ok.
