Max and I loved the woods. We went there whenever we could. It was our place. Our little escape from everything and everyone. The woods were our place to get away from it all. The only safe place we could run to when things were bad. They were our hide away.

Out in the woods it was so peaceful. There was no yelling. No shouting. No smashing objects. No drunken parties. No foul smells. Just the crisp clean air and the sounds of nature surrounding us. The birds chirping. The swaying of trees in the wind. The crunching of leaves and sticks beneath my boots.

We would go out and find a nice spot and just sit and talk. We would talk and talk for hours on end. Time slipped by.

One day we decided to go exploring. We found a stream the further back we went to the back. We followed it. We spent hours following it. When we reached the end of it, to our amazement, it came out to a really big lake. We had no idea there was a lake out there.

I remember one day we went out in the woods with one simple mission, to get lost. We wondered around until we found a turtle. He was a cute little thing. I took him home and painted his shell with finger nail polish. Then we let him go.
