We immediately hide.
I hear them get out of the truck and talking to one another. We don't move. Any movement could make a noise and they would come to investigate. I hold my breath. My heart pounding. I hear them start to climb the stairs. Only after we hear the front door slam shut do I let out a sigh of relief.
"We better go inside. They catch us and we are in some serious trouble," I say throwing everything back under the trailer.
"Okay. Hold on. We need to wait a minute. Make sure they don't come back out when we sneak into my window," Max says pulling me back towards the gap. I crouch back down and wait for him to tell me when to go. We wait about three minutes before we bolt towards his window. Luckily, his window is broken so it can be opened from the outside.
He opens the window and backs away. He lifts me up into the window then he jumps up into the window. I listen for a moment to see if they have come back to see if we are in our rooms, but I don't hear anything. They must be in their bedroom. We are safe.
"We're gonna have to go back and do that again tomorrow," I smile.
"Of course! Let's make a path through the woods tomorrow after school," he smiles back.
"Good," I nod. "So.....Bleach?"
He thinks for a moment. "Nah," he says shaking his head, "Resident Evil 4."
I jump up and run to the Wii. We can always agree on this.
