*Natalie POV*
I'd signed a few things, and after changing into a maroon sweater and gray sweatpants, they shuffled me into the community room. It consisted of a few easel stands, some paints- crafting supplies mostly, a shelf of books, and desks along a wall with chairs. I managed to find a book about some far off princess in a kingdom, and sat down. There were about ten other people in this room, a few made eye contact and someone waved, but they seemed to exist in peace among each other. I was just getting more into the book when a girl plopped down next to me.
Her hair was a jet black pixie cut with a long bang, a stripe of ombre purple to pink along the front of her hair. She was a bit pale in complexion but her smile seemed to make up for it, and she was talking but then stopped.
"Hello? Captain, I can't hear you, are you there come in captain!" She snapped her fingers in my face, "You there, buddy?"
I blinked a few times and then nodded, "Hi."
"Hey! What's your name? You look new, you're even wearing the merch!" She pulled on my sweater a little bit and I recoiled at the touch. She stopped smiling and retracted her hand pretty fast, "Woah, sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. What's your gig here?"
"I thought we weren't supposed to ask that."
"We're not, but it ends up coming out sooner or later anyway."
I looked around, and then down at my hands. "I suppose I have bad dreams."
"Ah, you've got a 'petey,' that sucks."
"Petey?" I was so confused. This girl was so in your face, I was ready to head back to my room.
"I give everything a nickname in here, it's easier for me, personally. Petey is my name for PTSD," She pointed to herself, "Anyway, I meant to introduce myself. I'm Frankie, I'm in here for 'the stuff' aka drug problems. I have," She pulled her sweater down a little to reveal a long scar along her chest. "a problem with pills. I had a heart surgery and I got hooked on some pain killers, but after the pain killers from being in here the first time 'Debbie' showed up." Frankie noticed my confusion, "Depression, hun. So what's your name?"
"Natalie." I clutched onto the book, and before I could say anything more she gasped.
"Natalie! You're my new roommate! After Lara left, I was in there by myself for a little, and then they started getting that side ready for someone new."
"Great." I mumbled.
"Listen, I know I can come on a little intense at first, but I promise you'll get used to me. I can introduce you to everyone!" She led me around, I met a few people and we just exchanged a nod and moved on, until she led me up to a couple guys at easels.
"Natalie, this is Canyon." She pointed to a taller guy, a few years older than me, long brown hair pulled into a ponytail, and he didn't say anything. "Canyon doesn't talk, he's a mix of Debbie and AnnyX so we're just going to pass on him. He's been quiet since he got here, so don't expect him to say much of anything soon."
"Frankie, not now. We're drawing." An exasperated sigh came from the other side of the canvas. His Scottish brogue threw me off, I had to think about it for a moment before understanding what he said. "Honestly, you do this every time. Look, you've broken my concentration now. Away with you."
"Wow, you have great manners BROEHEIN, I love it." She rolled her eyes, "I just wanted you to meet the new girl, Natalie."
"Aeron to you, Miss, and y-" He peered over, his jawline was solid, and made eye contact with me for a few moments before I looked away. He stopped talking before disappearing behind the canvas.
