*Natalie's POV*

I stepped into the kitchen and let out a sound of surprise as Hux immediately pulled me into his arms in a hug.

"Ohhh, I'm so happy to see you," He said, breathing me in, he kissed my cheek and I kissed him back, my cheeks flushing as I noticed someone staring at us.

He set me down next to a woman a bit shorter than me, her auburn curly hair in a messy bun and her light brown skin glowing as she looked at Hux in suspicion, "Who's your friend?"

Not missing a beat he grinned, "This is Natalie, Natalie this is Firefighter Xiomara Rhodes, she's going to be passing out supplies and soup to people tonight."

We shook hands and she made eye contact, a smirk on her face, "Just a friend, huh?"

After Huxley had laid out everything and explained how the kitchen worked he grinned, "Anything else, I'm your man."

"Briar, what are we making?"

His smile fell off and he laughed, "I was only told to make soup, so I didn't think that far ahead. But we have plenty of ingredients and spices."

I scoffed and looked at everything, "We can probably get away with a vegetable soup, if you make some dough we can include a roll."

"I can cut your onions," he laughed, "I know they're hard on your eyes."

I couldn't help but smile, "Aww, you remembered."

Hux opened the drawer and showed me a pair of goggles and slipped them over my eyes, "I know eye protection is important." He kissed my forehead and then asked, "You doing okay?"

I nodded, "I'm good."

"It's Desmond." He said, "Isn't it?"

I sighed, "How'd you know?"

He shrugged, "I've seen the way you've talked about him and the way he looks at you. You're too scared to pursue a relationship with him right now. After you and Logan broke up, you were healing for months. Even though he's gone there's a piece of you that's still tied to him. Maybe you're scared that if you fall for Desmond that part of you is letting go of Logan."

"How are you this perceptive?"

Briar looked at me, "You need some support, space, some way to make things easier on yourself. That being said, I would love to take you out when you're ready."

We looked at each other and we were so close. He leaned in closer and I brushed my lips against his, once, twice, and then his hands were in my hair, one hand on my back. We continued to kiss until my legs were around his waist, he was holding me up with one hand as his hand cradled the back of my head. I became suddenly very aware of his body and I let go, putting some space between us.

"Wait, we should stop. We have to make soup." I gasped, taking a couple breaths.

"Right, yeah," he turned his back, "I'll just..." he started to work on washing the vegetables and Rhodes conveniently walked in.

"Everything good, guys?"

My cheeks burned as I nodded, "Yeah, totally fine."

Rhodes smiled and then it faded as she pulled out her phone and started texting, lost in thought.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

She shrugged, "I just worry about my family in these storms, my dad's not the handiest when it comes to possible pipes bursting or knowing when to stay at home." I handed her a piece of candy, hoping for her smile to stay a bit longer before she went back to stressing. She looked at me strange and her hand went up to my chin and she tilted my neck, "I see what you were doing, and so will everyone else," she giggled and looked at Huxley, "Dude you don't maul girls like this, my god I left you alone for five seconds."
