Subj: Hey

Hey Jordana,

My name is Scarlet, I'm Damien's sister. I got your email from his phone and I was wondering if you'd be willing to come out for the holidays? I know it's a lot to ask, but this is Damien's first holiday with us since coming back from California.

Hope to see you,

Scarlet

I know all about your family, he told me about you. Damien is a good friend, and I haven't seen him for a while, so only because of that, I'll come out there. But it will take me a little to afford the travel.

I sighed, getting Jordana to come here for the holidays was difficult. I feel like maybe she had something against us, but in her texts she told me that I was the only one Damien really talked about in our family. Our family dynamic had definitely changed since he came to town, but I was happier for it. I was really starting to like her, just from the back and forth texts and emails we'd sent to each other. I had liked girls for a long time, but I wasn't sure if Jordana felt the same way.

*Damien's POV

"I miss you," those were the words I focused on in the voicemail from Natalie. Hearing her sniffles and cries wrecked me.

How could I look at her the same way? I remembered back to the kiss. The way her leg felt around me, feeling her skin against me was like waking up.

It had been such a brightness, but since she came home I just couldn't look at her without remembering what happened between us. I felt I'd taken advantage of her situation.

It was 3 o'clock, and I saw Scarlet's light on. Logan's was still dark. He'd been gone for a week, but it didn't surprise me. How was he going to tell Natalie that he was a dad? I knew she wanted to start a family at some point, and it would tear her apart if she found out.

I couldn't fall sleep, so I tried Natalie's cell, but it went to voicemail. I finally pulled myself out of the bed, got dressed in warm clothes, and walked over to her place. I saw a dim light in her room, and assumed she'd just forgotten to turn off her fairy lights. Instead of coming through her window, I let myself in with a spare key Alex had given me.

I took off my shoes, threw my coat on a chair and walked up the stairs. I peeked into Alex's room, but he was fast asleep. AB's arm lay draped over him, their legs intertwined. I glanced into the guest room, a few of my things were still there, but the bed had been remade. A small crack in Natalie's door led me to believe she was asleep. I opened the door a little, whispering her name, "Natalie?" When she didn't answer I sat on the edge of her bed. I brushed my fingers against her hand, "Natalie, are you awake?" When she didn't answer again, I took her hand. Her pulse beat strongly against my fingertips, and I let out a breath of relief.
