You are the one girl
And you know that it's true

It was such a relief to finally be back home. You had been waiting for weeks to finally be able to sleep in your own bed and to see your parents and younger sister.

You had done amazing on your finals, which made you relax incredibly, so you could enjoy winter break. You had been baking all afternoon in preparation for the Christmas dinner. It had been raining the whole afternoon and baking seemed to be the best way to keep your mind free of the alluring brown-eyed man.

Tom had been present in your mind for all those weeks. He still hadn't talked to you and you didn't expect him to since he had found another fuck buddy to replace you. Tom had become someone you needed in your life without you even noticing it. He was who you'd call at three in the morning when you couldn't get back to sleep and he'd listen to your pointless rants, something no one really did.

In such a little time, he had become your safety net and it was scary. If you ever missed a step, there would be no safety net anymore. It was incredibly silly to give him that much importance. The importance that, in your eyes, he didn't deserve.

"Y/N, Haz." Your mother called softly, "Would you mind placing the extra cutlery on the table?"

"Who else is coming? I thought it was only nan and us." Charlotte, your younger sister wondered as she put her book down. Your mother shook her head, "The Hollands are coming over."

You stopped what you were doing and looked back at your mother with raised eyebrows, then back at Haz, "I told her it wasn't a smart idea, I'm sorry." He told you with a sigh.

Without another word, you started placing extra plates and napkins while your cookies finished baking. Harrison followed. You had all fallen silent, the only thing that could be heard was an Elton John song from your playlist.

To be honest, you didn't know why you had been surprised. Tom's family would always visit yours on New Year's or Christmas or you'd visit them. You liked his brothers a lot, they were nice. You'd usually end up arguing with Harry during Uno rounds or beating Sam's ass on video games or even competing with Paddy to see who'd make the nicest snowman.

After taking your cookies out of the oven and placing them on a cute glass container, the doorbell rang. A sigh escaped past your lips as you straightened the casual blue dress you were sporting.

You hesitantly went to open the door. You could avoid Tom, right? You were friends with his brothers, you could manage. After all, a year back, he was just an acquaintance.

Nikki hugged you tightly, which made you relax and smile wide. She was an incredibly beautiful woman and a second mother to you. Dom hugged you just as tight as Nikki, but the moment the twins walked through the door, they both engulfed you in a tight hug, followed by Paddy.

You froze in your place when you saw Tom standing in front of you. A soft smile adorned his face as he looked at you, it was almost a timid smile, instead of his shit-eating grin. You reciprocated the smile and that was it. He didn't hug you or even shake your hand. A sigh left your lips at that action. You were so used to talking to him until you ran out of things to say and for the first time in a while, it was completely silent between the two of you.

Everyone was talking to each other during dinner. Your eyes were glued to the plate in front of you; Tom was sitting in front of you and you could feel his stare on you as you continued eating your food. Nikki would ask you questions every now and then to try and keep you included in the conversation. The tension between you and Tom and clear as day to anyone present. However, they had decided not to mention it.
