The government had been doing experiments for a while, it was something everyone knew, however, you noticed many things people seemed to ignore and you blamed it on them, but, you were only twelve years old, so, who would believe you?
You happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and that was the start to all of your problems.
Your best friend Tom and you had just finished watching a movie at his house and you were preparing to go back home, it was very late and he insisted on taking you home but you refused.
After that night no one saw you again, you had vanished completely without leaving any trace, leaving Tom wondering what happened to you; a few days after you disappeared they found your "body" on the road and for the whole town you were dead, but not for him, Tom had a feeling at the pit of his stomach, he knew you weren't gone.
He was right, you weren't; the government had taken you away so they could do experiments on you after they saw the things you could do.
Just like Eleven, a girl that lived there way before you, you lived in a small room, only going out when needed; you were desperate to leave, you missed Tom.
It was a big day for Eleven, she was going to do what the man that had stolen you called making contact; you saw that day as an opportunity to finally escape after being there for three years.
You didn't know, but you were exactly like Eleven, you could move things with your mind and even read other people's minds and talk to them telepathically, it was crazy.
You had been waiting in your room for Eleven's sign, you both had planned something out so you could get out of there, together.
"Y/N, run." You heard Eleven's quiet voice in your mind and took it as your signal to get out of there, you were wearing an oversized hospital gown and the long locks you once had were gone, your hair not even going past your jawline, it was very short.
You broke the lock that kept your door closed and the door flew open, much to your luck, there wasn't anyone waiting for you behind that door.
You ran through the halls, barefoot, once you were out of the compound you sighed in relief, happy that you were finally free, however, that happiness went just as fast as it came, as you felt a bullet pierce through your leg, you screamed, loud, a wave of pain washed through your body as your eyes fluttered shut, that was the last thing you felt before your body hit the hard floor.
-Tom's Point of View
Tom couldn't stop shaking as he ate with his family, all he had in mind was you, it had been three years since you left him, three years since they found you dead in the middle of the road.
"Tom, hey! Are you feeling okay?" His sister Barbara said, snapping him out of his thoughts, Barb had noticed Tom's clenched jaw and how shaky he was and it was worrying her.
The phone started ringing, making Tom jump on his seat a tiny bit, his younger brother, Sam noticed, "Dude, calm down, it's just the phone."
"Will? No, he didn't come over last night... You can't find him?.... No, Paddy is perfectly fine, he came straight home last night.... Yeah, I'll call you if I see him... Yeah, bye Joyce."
The young boy turned his attention to his mom, his eyebrows furrowed, "What's wrong?" Paddy asked as he munched on a piece of toast.
"They can't find Will, but I'm sure he probably went to school early." Tom tensed even more at the mention of his brother's friend being missing.
"Time for school, don't wanna be late, do we?" Their mom said with a smile as she pushed her five kids out the door, not before whispering something to Tom.
"I know this is hard baby, but Y/N wouldn't have wanted you to be like this, so smile, for her." He just nodded again, after he lost you, it seemed as if he had lost his voice too, not even one word had left his lips in three years.
After a few minutes he finally arrived at school, his best friends Harrison and Jacob were already waiting for him outside, as they chatted about some random things, he walked up to them with books in hand, they walked to class when the bell rang, Tom could feel the stares on the back of his neck, only tensing up even more.
The day went like a blur to him, people he had never talked to still came up to him to express their pity for what happened to you when in reality no one even knew how amazing, beautiful and delicate you really were, not like Tom did, you didn't deserve to die.
"I don't want their pity." Tom signed to his two friends, they had invented a weird sign language between them, both as a way to help Tom and so no one else would understand.
"I know you don't, they're just trying to be nice." Harrison told Tom as they climbed up their bikes to head home again, Tom would've invited them over, seeing as he hated being alone, but he was under curfew until Will was found.
Tom couldn't fall asleep that night, he would only dream about you, which caused him to wake up in the middle of the night crying, you were everything to him.
His train of thoughts stopped when he heard a loud noise coming from the basement, he turned on a lantern that was placed on his bedside table and grabbed Sam's baseball bat from next to the door, he crept down the stairs quietly, almost falling over when he stepped over one of Paddy's legos.
He opened the basement door with shaky hands, his grip on the baseball bat tightening, he turned on the light as he lunched forward, ready to hit whoever was trying to rob their house.
"Tom! Stop!" He dropped the bat as he saw his little brother Paddy standing there, looking as if he was ready to leave.
Tom took out a notepad he always kept in his hoodie, "Where the hell are you even going? It's midnight."
"I'm going to look for Will, I can't stay with arms crossed and pretend like nothing is happening like everyone in this damn town." Tom knew he was right, however, he knew he couldn't let Paddy go out alone.
"Can I come with? You don't want mom to find out, do you?" He showed Paddy the note with a cheeky smile on his face, the young boy just rolled his eyes but nodded.
They met Paddy's friends near where Will had disappeared the previous day, the three boys were speechless when they saw Tom standing there.
"Wo told you not to bring anyone." Paddy's friend, Lucas, complained, his other friends Mike and Dustin just shrugged.
"He won't tell anyone Lucas, relax." With those words said, they started looking for Will Byers together, however, the last thing they expected happened and Tom knew he had gotten himself into something dangerous.
