"Soojung, give me the files of the applicants

"Soojung, give me the files of the applicants." I saw Mrs. Chae standing in front of the reception desk with a serious expression. She looked like she was ready to swallowed her prey.

"Right away, Mrs. Chae." Soojung said with a smile and a nod. She handed the files to Mrs. Chae and stepped out to the pantry.

Mrs. Chae was looking at the files thinking of the new interns needed for each department. She was creasing her brows trying to figure out what would be the best way to distribute the employees to the different team leaders for a more effective and functional group development.

She sigh, closing her eyes and rest her forehead against her palm. While doing so, Soojung came back and placed a cup of coffee on the table.

I hope Mrs. Chae wouldn't be doing overtime again today.

Mrs. Chae flipped the pages of the applicants looking at their qualifications. She was always hands-on with the employees ever since she became the CEO of the company. Although the files she was holding went through a preliminary cut, she could still see that some were not qualified for the positions needed.

"I wonder how the people from HR department picked these people." She said.

She made two piles of the files, those who she thought were qualified and those who she should remove entirely from the list. She was left with a couple more files of applicants when her hands suddenly stopped on a specific applicants' resume.

She looked at the picture of the applicants. I could see it from my desk and the faces were familiar to me. Her eyes were suddenly wide open with excitement then followed by a grin on her face. It was an amazing sight to behold, the way she was looking intensely at a piece of paper that can be considered as an art piece in a museum.

"I finally found you!" She said as she started to form a smile and her eyes sparkled like twinkling stars in the night sky. It was as if she found the most amazing treasure in a pile of garbage.

The sound of laughter was heard. She was happy.

It was a known fact that this company does not accept just anyone. Sometimes, I wondered how was I able to be accepted in such a big company. Once, my parents found out about it, they were so happy that we had a small celebration. They were so proud that they even brag about it to our relatives and their friends. It made me embarrassed but also proud of myself for accomplishing such a feat.

I was aware that I graduated from a mediocre university with no honours or special mentions to my name. Fashion Design was never my first choice in my life. It was literature. Thinking of how my parents were really against it, I had to choose it anyways. I was such a nerd before. My face is as simple and normal as it can be before. I know they did not take into account my look which is at best average. I have no special skills, except writing. So, the worry about being accepted is quite founded. However, I had to take the first step into society with my head held up high because my first job is in this company.
