"I still can't believe you've got the football captain."
Nick glanced towards her left, the 13-year-old girl giving her best friend a look. The private school they went to had sports teams for every few grades that were there. Since the giant school went from elementary school all the way to high school, the classes and sports teams were obviously separated by grades. But with the sports, there were elementary teams, middle school teams, and high school teams.
And according to Lexie, Nick was dating the boy who was the captain of the middle school football team.
Nick scoffed slightly as she turned back to shove her books into her locker. "I definitely wouldn't say that. We're just friends."
"Mhm." The blue eyed girl leaned against the lockers, fixing her blonde ponytail, still smiling brightly. "Do you think he's going to ask you to the dance? Oh! Do you think he's gonna ask you to wear his letterman jacket? Aww, your babies are gonna be so cute!"
"Wow, okay, you really need to chill." The brunette looked over, pushing her glasses up her nose. "We've only hung out to study. There's nothing to get all excited about."
"But you guys hangout every Thursday. And that's not including three years ago when you guys basically already went on a date." Lexie beamed, causing Nick to look at her, the girl's face heating up a bit as she scoffed. "Oh please. We were ten and it was just to - to a race. Nothing else."
Then to change the subject, Nick shut her locker. "Now, come on, gym class is about to start."
When the two had gotten to the locker rooms and changed out of their uniforms, and into the red shorts and gray t-shirts with the school logo on the shoulder - which were the only gym clothes they were allowed to wear, and Nick left her glasses in her locker. They then headed into the gym and went over to the students that were in the class, all in matching clothes, they had just joined their other best friend, Kayla, when the coach blew his whistle. "Alright, today we're playing everyone's favorite game. Dodgeball!"
The entire class groaned, except Nick, who was laughing a bit as Lexie stuck her tongue out and fake gagged, while the brunette pulled her hair up into a ponytail.
"Mendes!" Coach yelled, causing the girls to all look towards him, and when he pointed next to him, Nick hesitantly listened and walked over as he said. "You and Raken are the captains. Choose your teams."
Nick's face heated up a bit as she could feel Lexie's gaze on her, but then the girl smiled, her hands nervously tugging at her shirt as Jack moved up to stand next to her. In the three years since they actually became friends, the two had grown up a bit but not much. Jack was a bit taller than her and a lot more cute. Even though she wouldn't admit it, Nick still had a crush on him.
Jack smiled as he looked at her, "Do you want to pick first?"
"Um..." Nick glanced at the group, before looking back at him. She may be always flustered or nervous around him, but she was still herself. And she definitely didn't take handouts. So, instead, she put her hands out. "If I win, then sure."
