After a night of just tossing and turning, Nick finally had to get up and get ready for school. She had to take a quick shower before getting dressed, then she looked over herself in the mirror, noticing the scrapes and bruises on her arms and elbows, and the little cuts on her hands. She had some bruising on her upper right arm from where that Iron Legion had grabbed her, and she had a couple little cuts on the back of her neck and on the left side of her face from smashing through the glass.
The girl definitely had bruising on her back and on her torso, but those didn't really concern her when she saw the light bruising on her chin and jaw, from how hard she had hit the floor. With a breath, Nick pulled out the makeup from under her sink, since she had a bathroom attached to her room, and she tried her best to use coverup over the bruising.
When she finally wasn't able to see it, Nick then went back into her room and pulled on a gray sweater before pulling on socks and her floral combat boots. After that she grabbed her jacket and bag, she headed out but ended up stopping by the door while looking down at her arm.
After the night that she had, and the fight that her and Tony had, she didn't want anything of his on her at the moment, so she took the watch off and put it on her nightstand before heading out, while brushing a hand through her tangled drying hair.
She made sure to leave without seeing anyone, especially Tony.
It was an hour after school started when everyone that was going on the field trip, had to get onto the bus, and they all had to sit with who they were partnered up with. Nick and Peter were sitting in the far back seat, with Ned and Harry in the seat next to them, the boys already starting a conversation even before they had left the school while Nick just sat quietly while looking out the window.
She was still upset about everything that's happened, and Tony's words kept ringing through her head.
"You are still a child, Nicolette. You're 14. You're not a hero. You are a kid."
She knew that she was just a kid, and she never wanted to be a hero. But how was she supposed to tell him that he's the reason she wanted to even be on the team. That she not only wanted to spend more time with her father, but because there was always that knot in her stomach that made her want to be there to make sure everything was okay.
And that if something disastrous was happening, then she wanted to be with him because he made her feel safe.
She knew that she wasn't a hero and she never wants to be a hero. She just wants to have one year where her and her family aren't almost killed. And she missed Pepper, who had been gone away on business for the past couple months.
Nick also hadn't gone this long without seeing or speaking to the Williams, but she knew that if she called them, then they'd ask how she was doing... and she couldn't lie to them. Melissa and Marcel already wanted to get her out of Tony's care, but there was no way that they could do that without jeopardizing Nick's citizenship in America.
