One second, Nick was walking in the warehouse, then the next - it was like she blinked and suddenly, she was walking down a hallway that she didn't recognize. It was one of a house, with an off white paint on the walls and oak wood floorboards that had holes and scuffs on them.
"Hello?" The 14-year-old called out, slowly walking down the hallway that almost looked like it went on forever, her right hand still by her side as it gripped the light dagger so tightly that her knuckles were white. Her brown eyes narrowed down the hallway as she slowly walked down it, her left hand lifting up slightly so that her fingertips could graze the wall... until they hit something.
Nick looked over and continued slowly walking as her fingers slid across the paper while her eyes looked over the papers that all seemed like they were taped and lined up on the walls. Each paper with something different on it, painted in watercolors or colored with crayons.
Most of the pictures you were unable to actually make out what they were supposed to be, but all of them were obviously made by a child. A kid who was 4-years-old and younger, to be exact.
Nick's left hand stopped on one picture that she remembered drawing. Her hand was shaking as she touched the crayon drawing of three stick figures - one a tall man with blonde hair, one a woman with dark hair, and a little girl between them with dark curly hair, holding hands with both of them.
The girl's hand dropped to her side as she could feel both hands shaking and her breath beginning to get even more shaky and uneven.
"Esto no es real..." [This isn't real..] Nick whispered with a shake of her head as she walked forward again, eyebrows pulled together because the hallway had finally come to an end. And when she finally got to the end of the hallway, her breath caught in her throat as her feet immediately stopped.
"Honey, come on, you've gotta get ready." The woman said, with matching tanned skin as the girl, her dark hair pulled back into a braid with some loose strands naturally curled and framing her face. She had the same dark brown kind eyes, and she spoke as she moved around the kitchen, almost like she was in a rush.
Nick wanted to cry... and she was on the brink of it. The girl's bottom lip trembled as she shook her head, her eyes tearing up. And when she spoke, it was barely above a whisper, her voice wavering. "Momma?"
Lorelai Mendes was just as beautiful as Nick remembered her to be, acting as though it was any other day, while she was in her uniform for the hospital, with a phone pressed between her ear and shoulder as she was speaking into it. The woman was smiling and Nick caught that she was talking to Christopher, but honestly, the 14-year-old wasn't even paying attention to what was being said.
